Oil Service Indicator
« on: March 12, 2012, 12:18:48 AM »
Today while riding the service oil light came on.  My intentions are to change the oil every 1000 miles.  It has been about 350 miles since I last changed it.  I had checked it before starting out and it has not yet burned a drop.  But, it is the oil warning light so I stopped riding to check the dipstick, which of course was a waste of time.  I really do not need a light to come on to tell me when to change the oil.  Is there someway to disable it so that it will still come on if there is a real problem?

I think there is somehting in the manual that allows that. You could always take it to Mini-trail bikes and see if Ken can disable it.

I am NOT trying to hijack this thread BUT I got a flash the other day about this feature: This could be used a second ODOMETER for something other than the 600 mile interval. Fer instance, one could use it for gasoline fills leaving the trip for navigation turn points and such. The oil odo goes in integral miles which would be satisfactory for gas mileage computation but not good for most nav turn points. I would like to disable the light or reset its interval, too and don't know how.

It was scary for me the first time the oil light came on...I was travelling at 55 mph.  Of course I stopped to check the oil level immediately and whipped out the owner's manual on the side of the road.  Reset the light.

My actual oil changes are not yet in sync with this reminder light so I'm not going to reset again until ready for my next change.

Kymco should have used a different less-scary warning light to indicate a 'service' reminder.  Finally a FLAW in the mighty Yager!

Another problem is that the oil service light comes on each 600mi.  The maint. sched. in the manual indicates that changes should be at 1200mi. after the first 600mi.  So what are they saying, or am I wrong.

I meant to say the first time around that I was startled to see that oil light the first time! Got the book out and found out what it meant. I was wrong, WRONG about the oil service odo being integral numbers; they are miles and tenths (or kms and tenths) . I am now using the oil odo for fuel and the trip for any required nav or turn points. That way the oil light will NEVER show its ugly face again and I will keep oil changes by the miles and calender like always.
