Suspension
« on: August 26, 2012, 02:23:41 PM »
Hi,

Can anyone please explain the settings in detail for the rear suspension.  Plus how to adjust the shocks?  Does the 300 have to be on the center stand?

Thank you

Ruben

Can't find a picture online, but you should have that info in the user manual.
The rear shock has 5 preload settings, they didn't specify what setting is for
what load so you gotta play around with it a bit.

The stock 3/5 works great for me, I'm around 200lbs and have a huge topcase,
always got some stuff with me. It was too soft at 2/5, and I lost some feedback
from the front wheel so I put it back at 3/5.

Even with my GF at the back, 3/5 works fine, I'd probably use 4/5 on a longer trip
with more luggage.

Hello Ruben,

Cortez provided some good information on which settings (1 to 5) to use with different loads so I will just add a bit more about the procedure to change them:

Attached is page 22 from the manual that explains it quite clearly.  I have the scooter up on the center stand and use my hands to rotate the adjustment collar on the lower end of shocks - you do not need any tools.

Be sure to only adjust left/right from 1 to 5 and then change direction back towards 1 again, do not attempt to rotate it 360-degrees and jump from 5 directly to 1 or you may damage the shock.

Setting 1 is softest to 5 most firm and set both sides to the same number..

2 when I go alone (87 Kg.), and 3/4 when I go with my wife.

The suspension in Kymko Downtown (SuperDink in many countries) aren't good cuality, there are better alternatives

My  downtown  has 28,000 km. on it, I have   not touched the moter yet, still runs great in the summer,   but in the cold it is harder to start, I read in the other forum that it could be the valves  are not right, so   my garage is not heated, and the temp. is near freezing on the nice days, is it a good idea to adjust valves at that temp. ,  thanks for any advise,  and a Merry Xmas to all,   joe

Is that the price for a single shock or pair?
Seems very cheap.
Never heard about the brand either.

The suspension on the DT isn't great, on most scooters it's not, but it works better then on my
last Kawasaki so that's saying a lot.

I'd actually like the front to be a bit softer, I'm happy with the rear and the adjustability it offers.

Sure thing!  ;)

Just don't "play around" with the tire pressure by more then 10% (even that is a lot) from the
recommended values or you might get yourself in trouble.

There's also some tire choices that are known to be more comfortable then other, and the stock Kenda tires
I had on mine were rather harsh. Going to a set of Michelin Power Pures or City Grips will improve the comfort
by a rather big amount.

The engine should be cold, but HOW COLD is too cold is probably a good question.  ;D

When was the last time you changed your spark plug?
That's a more probable cause then your valves (re: harder to start).
