Anyone out there?!? Air box /mods question
« on: May 02, 2021, 03:15:28 PM »
Just finished new carb, performance filter, cdi unrestricted boss and rollers. Removed the whole air filter box and re-routed the breather line. Went for a ride yesterday. Much faster then it was. Use to top out on flat ground around 32, now hits about 45-47mph on flat ground. When riding heard what almost sounded like a blowoff valve releasing in a tuner car. Bike didn't shut down, all hoses appear to still be on, and it still drove. Had to adjust the idle screw when I got back because it was stalling out at stops. Runs fine, but that singular noise got me a little paranoid. Plan on an oil change (already was going to before this noise happened) todays and a little more of a test drive. Any thoughts on this? It's a 2020 kymco agility 50 4t with about 1200 miles on it. Want it to last as long as I can, and plan on changing oil every 800 to 1000 miles. Would love some sort of input. Just been getting a lot of crickets on here vs any potential answers. Thanks.

Looking for longevity ? > might wrap a tiny-tach pick-up around the plug wire to see what kind of rev's you're pulling at 45MPH on a 50/4T !

No mater how often the oil is changed - possible over-revving might not lead to longevity.
It seems you can have a screamer with a short life-span - or a mild 4T that pokes around forever.
But I base that thought on reading - not ownership of a 50.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Thank you so much for responding. I can't seem to get answers on most of my posts. The scoot runs fast. Changed oil today and the old oil didn't look bad. As fast as it is, I try not to fill throttle it excessively, as to help with the life of it. We shall see!

You can uncork a 50cc with the right mods, but it will definitely have a short life! If you can get it to run 8,000rpm, you might be lucky to have it last for 5,000 - 7,000 miles.  (Speaking from experience)

Any recommendations on how to dial it in to a specific rpm?

Stig, do me a solid and look at my most recent exhaust post. I'm lost for ideas but open to fixes. If you don't mind that is! Thanks.

There are few on here that have modified 50 cc anything. One of the few like JJ need to be heeded. Others like Stig have superb experience and judgement that is valuable. The 50 cc has a place for a number of reasons and will last a long time as a commuter. Honda in the 60's raced one in a Grand Prix class at astounding speeds but at huge expense. The drift here is it gonna take lotsa bucks to get a 50 to really cruise. The downside is short life. Want to go faster? Go bigger. Got government restrictions? Tough it out until lifted. Want bigger for the least money? Stuff a 150 cc unit from a salvage yard.
