Play in Steering
« on: April 13, 2009, 01:33:44 AM »
Greetings!

After a long cold winter it's been good to get my '05 People 150 out on the road again the past few weeks.  I purchased the scoot last summer when it had about 3600 km on it.  It has always had some play in the steering.  I notice it only when I go over bumps.  It feels like it is vertical play coming from the steering stem.  When I put the bike on the center stand with the front tire off the ground, and shake the handlebars or the front wheel, however, I cannot feel any play.  Could it be a loose steering stem nut lock/steering race top cone?  Poor tolerances between the steering stem and frame?  Or something else?  Anyone have this problem with their 150 or other Kynco scoot?  Thanks for your help!

Dave

Dave,
I had a similar problem with my 150 just a few months after I bought it.  Instead of bumps, though, it was corners that were giving me concern.  According to the dealer, it was a steering stem nut that was the problem.  He fixed it in about 2 weeks (he needed to order a tool from Kymco to get the job done) and I have never had another problem.
