Are some variators interchangeable?
« on: May 04, 2012, 11:48:07 PM »
So I finally got back to workin on my project ZX. After a little fight getting the CVT cover off, I pulled apart the variator to find very abnormal wear on the rollers. After some investigating, I discovered some idiot decided the plastic guides were not necessary. So now the variator is shot.

Getting to my question now. I still have the stock variator for my people. Will that work in the ZX? They look identical.

It's more then possible, but I'm not sure about your specific case.
There is a way to check though, find ANY aftermarket CVT shop which
has malossi, polini or whatever else and ask for part numbers for both scoots
and see if they match.

If they do, then it'll fit!

Actually no they do Not swap. The ZX is unique, and alone in the Kymco world. Even the DIO vars do Not work correctly. Other vars fit but the diameters are different, and the boss length is different. Jassil, Polinni,Malossi are the only three I would recommend. I tried the Prodigy, and it is a cheap ass POS. The ramp plate self destructs, and will destroy itself in short order.
All three of the Vars I mentioned sell for about $100.00 delivered. I currently have the Jassil in one engine, and the Malossi in a second. They both work the same but the Malossi comes with a contra spring as a bonus
If you want a Polini or Malossi I can get either for 85.00 bucks shipped, and The jassil is available from Moped Hospital

That's what I said after the 6th or 7th attempt at retro fitting. You can make a rukus var work with the ZX boss, and ramp plate but finding an appropriate belt was all misses. I may go back to the search tho if I get bored.
