What engine oil and transmission fluid?

I picked up a used 2010, 108 miles on it.  So it is like new, sat in a garage, so the oil, filter has never been changed.  

Was wondering what people are running for oil?  I also noticed, the stock oil looks red, what the heck are they putting in there from the factory?

Anyone running a synthetic after it has broke in, like Mobil 1?  What oil and viscosity are you running?

On the transmission fluid, the manual just calls for SAE 90 weight fluid, any recommendations?

ok, i read through this whole section of the forum, seen people running regular 10W-40 during break-in. 

Did see some using 75W-90 transmission fluid also. 

Still looking for any inputs since those posts were a while back.

I was wondering the same thing about that red oil when I did my first oil change. Is that some kind of "special" break-in oil? Then I thought I probably should have left it in there longer as I did my first oil change at 40 miles.

As long as you didn't put Synthetic in you're fine.

break in on motors is almost as controversial as break in on a rifle barrel

Polaris on their ATV's run synthetic from the factory, i have one, put alot of miles on it, runs great....

i think alot had to do with tolerances of vehicles, much tighter tolerances today.  I think what is more important is the rpm's during break in, that you vary the rpm's, and that you run the rpm's up through a range

i used to race motorcycles, we built alot of motors, we varied the rpm's and even ran them up to redline during break in, we just never held them constant, but we ran rpm's up to get a good seating of the rings to the cylinder walls....

Been running mine on Castol Synthetic since the first oil change and The bike has over 10000 miles on it now. Changed the trans oil to synthetic as well. A quart of that stuff lasts a long time since it only takes about .1 liter.

thanks for the info Karl, I agree, sythetic is the way to go, even polaris runs it straight from the factory, but I go at least one oil change before switching.  On my dodge cummins diesel I ran it up to 20K miles before switching to Rotella synthetic....

I will be switching the transmission oil to Lucas sythetic 75w-90 on the first change....will run Castrol 4T standard 10W-40 in the yager after the first change and switch to synthetic after that
