CDI Help

2001 Yup.... Can someone tell me if this CDI is restricted? And if it is, How to derestrict? I've seen posts regarding other scoots and cutting, then splicing light green into green..... Just want to be sure though. Pic of unit attached

That appears to be the same cdi as the ZX uses.  I would say go ahead and try it.  I used one of these as a simple (removable) solution.

Yep! Scotch locks. That's what I used too. They're super easy to use and remove if necessary.

So completely cut light green and splice into darker green? or just splice into light green and splice in darker? I've read all kinds of different approaches now...... Am dizzy!

Ultimately it doesn't really matter...
If you use one of the connectors I showed you don't have to cut anything...both wires run through, you squeeze the metal tab down with pliers and snap the cover over.  ;)

I'm still @ 47/48 mph after splicing CDI wires..... The same as I was before! It does seem to get there a bit quicker though? Anyways, Thanks for the help. Now off for an evening ride over the bridges ;)

When my scoot was stock it topped out about the same.  The only time the cdi derestriction was really noticeable was going down hill...I could top 50 mph.  Before the splice the cdi wasn't allowing the engine to rev higher and I would maintain upper 40's even downhill.  Now there is nothing holding you back for some mods though!  ;)

Building and tuning has been an "exhilarating nightmare"..  :D  :D
Of course they really dont get as picky when they are OEM.  ::)  Of course they are A LOT more fun when they keep up.  ;)   ;D

Funny, my ZX would do no more than 38mph before I spliced the wires. Now it will do 40mph+. Definitely a noticeable difference. I think mine is a very early model though.

We're all here for the same reason... To laugh when people mess up their sh*t...
When I First started posting my best advice was the same as it is now... There are no GOOD/CHEAP parts. I tried every POS part on ebay, and found one truth, they all suck. If you are going to tune, save grief, and buy the best parts available. Otherwise stay OEM.
