Here's the scoop! After a lead from someone on this forum I actually found a way to buy the side case mounts I wanted from Hanover Germany but it isn't easy and it isn't cheap. I know only one phrase in German and it means "I don't speak German, do you speak English?" If the owner answers it's a definite no. You have to ask for Bjoern Dreler (you can call him Brian) and he speaks English well enough to handle the transactions. There was a problem with the on line purchasing (they don't take Visa) and I couldn't cash out to pay. First you have to speak to Brian to let him know what you want and from there the fun begins. The easiest way to override the payment glitch with the online store is by transferring money directly to the Commerzbank Ag, Theaterstr.11-12
30159 Hannover Germany. Your bank will also need the name and address of the beneficiary: in this case the store is: Steinfeld KFZ Werkstatt GmbH, Manager Klaus Sonnemann, Steinfeldstrasse 9-10a 30453 Hannover Germany. Brian will send you the bank account numbers and international bank data necessary for the transfer. (NB: additional $35.00 bank fee)
The cost of the side mounts is a bit more than the mounts for a top case but worth it if it's what you want. 129 Euros + 36 Euros for shipping and handling. With a 1.29 exchange rate this came to $214.00 Canadian give or take and I don't know if I have to pay customs, duty or what not on top of this.
I guess it depends on how badly you want it. If you want to "one up" everybody you'll be the first in your neighborhood to drive an Xciting 500 with side cases. Or.....if you want the added flexibility these cases can give you to store things (my rain gear, gloves, etc.)then it's worth it. I'm gearing up for some fairly long rides into the Quebec countryside and with my top case and these side bags (plus the room under the seat) I can bring my necessities with me. The money transfer was made 3 days ago and it's coming from Europe so if you want to wait.........I'll post their arrival on this form and those who want to buy are more than welcome. They were very helpful at Steinfeld Rollercenter. Here's the web site if you're interested.
http://www.rollercenter.de/ If you have google translate it does a decent job from English to German and back again. Between Brian and Google translator you should be fine. The international phone # is on the web site. Don't forget they're 7 hours ahead.
More to follow as it comes in.
