Yager Issues
« on: June 05, 2012, 11:06:45 AM »
Good Day All,
So I just passed the 2600 mile mark since I got my Yager new in March of this year. Everything has been great besides the past 3 weeks. Today, it goes in to the shop because there are multiple issues. Here they are:

1. Gear oil is leaking.
2. Unusual belt wear, which is causing excessive belt dust and making the components heat up to a ridiculous temp, making them untouchable. I believe the belt wear has to do with the gear oil leak, though. Also, I think the belt might be slipping a bit and causing some nasty vibrations under my arse the past couple rides out.
3. Check engine light blinks 7 times when scoot has been placed to the "ON" position.
4. Bringing the scoot to the shop this a.m., the check engine light is also blinking 4 times, along with the 7 code, when the scoot has been placed to the "ON" position.
5. Check engine light blinks twice when operating scoot above 45mph.

I have been pretty meticulous with my maintenance of the Yager, so these issues have been confused. The nice thing is that I know that it's not due to lack of care and maintenance on my part and abilities.
I will update this post when the shop has had a chance to check on these items. Of course, I expect warranty to cover these issues, so I didn't want to tackle any of them myself and void my warranty. Besides, I'm too damn busy; so if it's under warranty, let them deal with it.
I am bummed, though. I got the scoot on March 20th of this year. In 2 and a half months, I've placed over 2600 miles on it. It has become an essential part of my living - with work commuting and errands. It's a cheap and inexpensive ride, that stomps all over my car in terms of cost of maintenance and fuel mileage (~80mpg on scoot vs. ~26-27mpg for my car). I just think that this sucks. Multiple issues and the damn thing is new. I'm just hoping it is one of those fluke things, and after this fix it's smooth riding from here on out.

I'm hoping for FAST and ACCURATE warranty repair at my local shop! I've heard repair on warranty work in the US can take weeks waiting for parts, etc. If that's the case, I'm going to be one pissed off customer.

will be interesting to see what they say, mine only has a few miles, 368, and is getting some vibration on take off, which I know is the belt, I read another post on it here in the forums...

where is the gear oil leaking from?  If not the drain bolt, seems that it would have to come from the case, which could cause a lot of problems.

Some think it may be a bad gasket, which I agree with because it has all the symptoms. It leaks in to the case and has gotten all over the belt, etc. It leaked as much as 1/3 of the gear oil.
Yeah, I'm expecting my local stealership to say something along the lines of "Well, we replaced the gasket to repair the leak, but you need a new belt and that's not covered by your warranty," and the belt has only been an issue since the leak.

Also, the check engine lights are a big concern of mine. From what I've seen, it's probably just sensors; but it takes my dealer up to a few weeks to get genuine Kymco items in stock, so I'm wondering how long I'll be without my main mode of transportation.

Okay, well, I just heard back from the Service Department. They say that the leak is actual an oil seal from the engine that is leaking. Apparently my belt and everything else is slicked but in good shape. I have to wait to hear back on how long it will take to get this fixed.
Also, the check engine lights could not be reproduced. I did tell him that happens, but if the bike is good and warm, then the light will come on.
I'll update later, when I hear more details on the amount of time it is going to take to fix this.

5 - 7 business days. Faster than I though, but still brutal to wait that long. It could be worse, though!

yea for how much you use yours, let us know what they say, good info to have in the forum in case anyone else experiences problems... I bought mine mainly as another vehicle in case something happens to my truck.

I hope things will be ok. Maybe just a flaw in their quality control or just a bad stock.  I had my S8 for 10 months and with 8,000+ on the odo and not a single problem. Just a punctured rear tire.  Some S8 owners I read in other forums have issues with their S8 which I don't have....

Well, I got my Yager back today... finally. But better late, than never, right?! I have been riding my wife's Agility 125 for my daily work commute, and was getting quite used to it. Now I have my Yager back, and I feel new to it again haha

The only problem that required work was the engine oil seal. The check engine lights, they claim, are nothing to worry about unless the engine is running and the light comes on. I asked the tech: "Well, this check engine light used to never come on before, but it is now. Why the change, but everyone here claims that I shouldn't be concerned unless the engine is running?"
He looked confused, but tried to assure me that everything was okay, and to only be concerned if the light comes on when the engine is in operation. So, I let it go... for now  :D

Looking forward to taking my scooter up, and through, Smugglers Notch tomorrow.

Would love to post some video, but that's another story for now. Have a great weekend all!

my check engine light DOES NOT come on when i turned on the key, it does not flash, it does nothing, something is still wrong, i didn't see anything in the Dink Service Manual that talks about it, but I went through it pretty fast.  I'm going to go to my dealer tomorrow and have them order a service manual for me, I like having the service manual because I rarely take machines in for servicing, unless it is a warranty item.

You still have something wrong, that check engine light should not be on, let us know how it does.  Did you know if the dealer had a service manual or were they winging it?

http://www.magnumtuning.com/en/detail/ez-cel-fix-bike-oxygen-sensor-simulator/kymco/yager-gt-200i

That is one cool toy for future reference...

The four flashes is your TPI (throttle position sensor) the seven flashes is your O2 sensor. The shop obviously cleared the code to see if it would return. If it does you have to set the TPI output voltage to .5volts. A simple digital multi meter will work. Once the tpi is set correctly your O2 sensor will clear itself.
I don't know how but this post never showed till tonight. Almost every FI engine has the same codes, and cures.
