People 50 Hose/Line Question
« on: June 26, 2012, 12:21:40 AM »
I'm hoping someone can help with what might be a really easy question.

I have a Kymco People 50, 2 stroke, 2005 scooter that stalled a couple times today.  It was serviced about 2 months ago, it's ridden regularly by myself or husband to commute to work 10 miles per day round trip.  It's been 100 degrees for the past 3-4 days and today it stalled twice while my husband was riding it; once when he was stopped and once when he was riding, not stopped.  He took it to a car garage and they told him there was a hose loose.  I'm not convinced that there is any problem and that maybe it's just too hot.  It did hit 102 again today, very unusual for us (Colorado) especially in June.

I asked him to show me (I'm the mechanical geek or geek wannabee in the family) and here are the photos.  There is thin hose that looks like it's attached near the gas cap, runs along the fuel tank and then it's not connected to anything.  Is this a problem?  Could this be causing the stalling?  We had a new battery put in when it was serviced two months ago and it has been running like a dream.  Anything special that needs to be done in hot weather?

Thanks in advance.

That is just a vent for the fuel tank. It will either connect to a bung on the air box or is fine left alone.

That is so good to hear, I had a feeling it was OK.  I think the stalling is due to the extreme heat.  I don't mind taking it someplace but there is only ONE scooter maintenance place in the area and they will keep it for weeks and don't usually have time for questions. Thank you!

Pull the hose off, and make sure it is clear. May be a bug got in it, and clogged the vent. The other thing to try is adjust the Idle Mix screw. The heat requires less fuel. Just turn it 1/4 turn at a time to get the highest prm's, and re adjust the Speed screw when done. The Idle Mix is the smallest screw on the left side of the carb, and the speed screw is the larger one.
