Scooter manners

I boat often and when you see a fellow boater sitting on the sidelines for no good reason or with the cover off his motor you always pull over and offer aid of some sort.

My question is, is it SOP to pull over when you see another scooter or motorcycle on the road side and offer help. On my way into work today I came upon a guy sitting roadside talking on his cell phone, I pulled up and asked if he was OK, he thanked me and said "I got it", waved and nodded his head. I gave him a wave and moved on my way. The guy had a surprised look on his face when I stopped. I wasn't sure if he was surprised that a scooter guy stopped or that anyone stapped at all.

Thoughts?

I know if I broke down I'd like to see someone stop and offer me some help.

I think you did great. I would want someone to stop and ask if I needed help.  Great job.

I always stop or at least slow down and give a "you ok" gesture to anyone that looks stranded, especially if theyre on a bike, scooter or air-cooled VW, or if its a female or old person at night. Its common practice with VW guys. I had a biker stop last year when i ran out of fuel and was having a smoke by the side of the road while i waited for my wife to arrive with a jerry can, so i guess its common practice in the motorcycle world too.

Yes and no....  follow your guts.. it really depends on the situation and not SOP...  the fellow might say "Stick 'em up mister..."
