Multivar finally arrived!! But...
« on: July 11, 2012, 03:43:06 PM »
Still haven't taken it out of the box yet, but what is this plastic spacer looking thing that comes with the Multivar and do I need to use it??

...On a side note, I was taking out my main jet to upjet and when trying to twist the old one out it started to crumble and break apart from the twisting of the screwdriver. Had to get vice grips so it wouldn't disintegrate. Why in the hell would this happen?

If the multivar came with the boss the spacer may be to go behind the variator nut to make up for the shorter boss?

This was in a topic i read in the last few weeks somewhere in the forum, i think someone said just throw it away, you dont need it, but i cant be sure. If you got a boss with it check its length, sure Wordslinger said it came with a 0,5mm shorter boss?

Your jet mustve been a bad one or you overtightened it when you 1st put it in?

i never overtighten the main jet or any jets for that matter, when i first removed the jets i used some pliers to crack it loose then used a screwdriver the rest of the way but when you put jets back in only nip em tight.
Courage is measured in how much tyre you use.

Yea, must have just been over tightened, I have a tendency to do that sometimes. More is always better... Right?

The plastic ring is a restrictor washer to keep the top gearing low and the speed down. I never used it, so i dunno what speed it will restrict the scooter to, but it comes in all the packs, so it must be some kind of standart that malossi decided. It's so it can be sold everywhere, as selling tuning parts in Denmark and a couple of other countries are illegal, unless the seller makes it obvious that it is to be used for motorsport, and is illegal to use on public road. :p

The restricting washer is what makes it legal to sell this kit in countries like Denmark, even though it is still illegal to use the malossi multivar with the restricting washer or make a washer of the correct size yourself. :)

Scooter laws suck! ;D
