How hot does your CVT cover get after a ride?

Just wondered how hot everyones CVT cover is after a 5-10 mile ride?

I felt mine earlier while after a test run whe doing some tuning/mucking about and it felt quite hot really  :-\

Dont ever remember it feeling hot before but i maybe just never noticed it before now ???

Does your feel hot after riding or not. I wasnt "burn my fingers hot" and i couldnt fry an egg on it, but it was hot to the touch and seemed hotter than i wouldve expected?

Maybe i now need more airflow in there with running higher rpms? Or is it symptoms of a bigger issue?

Cvt components are all good cos i had it all stripped down today for a clean up and service but it does feel a few mph slower on flats the last few days, maybe just co-incidence tho?

...yes, cvts get too hot to hold your hand on comfortably..

..and yes, harder running will generate more heat...
..every mod (action) necessitates a (reaction) mod..

Phew!!! Good, cheers Word, it had me worried there for a bit.  :o

I knew the components inside always got way hot cos i have resorted to the welding glove in the past when tuning and test running to save waiting for the variator to cool  :D

Just cant believe i never ever noticed the outside cover feeling hot before ???

Im thinking of running a wider hose and making some kind of air induction type thingie to push more cool air in and try cool it down a bit. Also prob need a hole or 2 drilled at the back end to let the air out too i guess. Just need to make sure i keep rain and crap from getting in tho.

Morw sun due here tomorrow so i may have a potter about and try a few ideas out tomorrow if i have time........

I rarely run at anything under 6500rpm, normally im up over 7000 all the time.

..yeah man..at those rpms you'll generate some heat..

..i hot tune cvts...usually my fingers are burned numb for a cpl days after a really good session..lol..

..imagine how hot 9000 rpms makes everything!!    :o

Yeah, i can imagine  :o Generally once im going im somewhere between 7500-8500rpm with occasional 8900-9000 down hill and down to 6250-6500 up some hills so it rarely runs on low rpms ever.

Having a tach is a must on tuned scoots i reckon, takes away all the guess work and lets you know exactly how its running at all speeds/conditions. One of the simplest and cheapest, but most usefull, mods i did, been very useful to get things dialed in just nice. Every modded/tuned scoot should have one imo.

just found the tach on ebay. how do these work and how do you install one? thinkin next month for my birth day havind some scooter mods etc springs rollers a

The tach i got either screws on or i used good, strong double sided tape to stick it on. Then theres a thin wire comes out it which you simply run down inside the plastics to the spark plug and wrap the wire around the spark plug wire 2-3 times. Thats it done  :)

You prob want to go lighter on the rollers too, 6.5g - 16x13 rollers are stock so go 0,5g-1g lighter to try or buy a roller set of mixed ones to try. Either pedstop or pedparts (last post) do a set with varied centres and a set of outers to mix and match to tune it nice, Stage6 brand too im sure. Think it was like a tenner for the set.

will def get the roler set. which manufacture do you recomend for the springs? read on these befor that every manufacture is dif on the springs as in strenth etc, wanting a set of 1500 but only seem to come as a mixed set. want 1500 clutch and 1500 torque.

Well most people seem to like Malossi, i have never really heard anything bad about any Malossi parts ever. They are more expensive bit i think you tend to get what you pay for, at least you do if you go mega-cheap chinese.

Any brand name springs should be good tho, Pollini, Malossi, Nakura, Stage 6, etc, etc. I cant even remember what brand is in mine right now, Pollini i think  ??? I bought some that came in a set of 3 for both Torque and clutch, got 1000, 1500 & 2000rpm's of each in each set and if i remember they were not that expensive, only a few quid dearer than cheap ass no name Scooter Assassins ones.

Do NOT buy clutch springs from Scooter Assassins, imo, i once did when i was a total noob and soon saw why they were so cheap. It was because they were total sh**. I emailed them to complain and asked how they could describe them as springs when they didnt spring, when i went to fit them they stretched out and clipped on then did not spring back! They gave me no refund and said i had fitted them wrong  >:( I havent been back to them since. Funny how every other spring i ever fitted the exact same method worked fine  ::)
