Squeaky front forks
« on: August 05, 2012, 05:28:44 PM »
I have a new Like 200i with only 75 miles on it. Today when I took it out for a ride I heard the front forks squeaked (more accurately, the front fork springs) as sat on the scoot. Went on a 15 mile ride this morning only to have the squeak still noticeable. I don't recall the squeaking sound before. Is this normal? If not, should I bring it in under warranty?

Bring it in and see what the dealer has to say. Tell them, all of your friend's scoot doesn't squeak, yours does...

5k miles, mine squeak quite a bit. Not sure if that's something covered by warranty, or if it's considered a wear item.

While I wait for a reply from Kymco's customer service I decided to try moving the oil around in the forks. With the front brake engaged I gently fully depressed and released the front forks about two dozen times. It definitely reduced the spring sound.  :(

I think that most of the things in this thread are simple imagination of newbies. For most of you this is your first 2-wheeler, right?
No forks work without a sound and it is normal to hear "compression" sound.
Depressing and releasing forks two dozen times does nothing because forks do that in 200 meters of covered road.

If your forks are performing correctly, most likely everything is fine and forget about sounds.

You assume wrong. I have ridin motorcycles since 1977. No bike I ever owned made a sound as load as the forks on this scooter. Perhaps it is due to cheap Chinese parts. My neighbors owns a Yager and it is whisper quite in comparison. Even he thinks there's an issue.

Over on Modernbuddy there's a thread on this. 90% of the time they say it's not really the shocks where the sound is coming from but the centerstand flexing. I wiggled mine a bit and it sure was. Just enough for when your going slow over a dip or bump it "creeeeeeks". I'll be WD40ing it after work.

My Like 200i has about 1500 miles now and I also had the same sound from the forks.  I also had a Kymco super 8 but no noise from the forks. The noise was noticeable for the first few hundred miles and eventually became quieter with use. This forum has a few members that feel the need to jump in every thread possible with no specific answers.
It's always the same people referring to someones lack of experience. I have found better general scooter forums but I have to check back here from time to time and seek the advice of Kymco owners that are not complete dip shi*s.
Good luck you have a great scooter.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like time is needed to wear-in the "newness" of the forks. Just to be sure I am going to stop by my dealer this weekend and have a tech take a listen. They are a good bunch that loves to talk shop.
