Fair Price?
« on: August 18, 2012, 04:36:41 AM »
Hi,

I'm new to the forum, but I was wondering if $850 for a 2011 Agility with 1,385 miles - no scratches or scuffs - was a good price for it.  Also, it's been sitting for about 6 months - so, besides the new battery and gas, what else should I change out?

hello  bootscooterboogie and welcome
dont know about us price as in the uk. but sounds fair. what you need to ask is what is it worth to you. an un scratched a 50 is not that commen as most have little war wonds. but that never puts people off if there is the odd scratch and scrape.
just keep some money back in your pocket for derestricting it in a fue months when you get ust to riding it as you will want a little more pep ou of it. sure if you get it you will not regret it. fantastic toys and easy to work on. plenty of help on here too.
as to it being stood for 6 month check that it starts and runs ok. may not start on battry as been stood but kick start should be good. just give it a service when you get it even if owner says they just done it. then enjoy

basic things to do:-

1..drain the old petrol out (just remove the fuel line from the carb and drain) (get some seafoam in there on the fresh stuff)
2..empty old oil out and replace with fresh
3..check gearbox oil (should be ok)
4..check sparkplug (replace if nessacery)
5..defo need a new battery, if the one thats on it has gone flat for whatever reason you wont be getting the spark you need and you will suffer lower performance.

other than that there aint much else to say..only have fun riding and be safe.

Thanks for the welcome   :) and for the advice of what to do.  As far as draining the old gas out by pulling the gas line and draining it - is there a wiki that tells me how to do that step by step? or could you tell me?  Same with draining the oil out?

I'm definitely getting it a new battery for sure.  And a new spark plug can't hurt, either, I'm sure.

Thanks, again, for the welcome and advice!

If you do a search on here for the Agility workshop maunal you can find links to download it, that'll give you info on dojng the oil change and anything else you might want to know. Its pretty basic stuff so anyone can do an oil change really. If theres not much fuel in the tank you could just fill it up with new fuel of you dont want to drain it, should be ok imo, i've did that before on a few scoots, one sat for 3-4yrs outside and another sat for over 5 under a tree, both still run now  :)

I respectfully disagree

Drain the old fuel. 6 months is old. My ZX sat for about 8 months and had already started to rust the tank.

If it runs then $850 isn't bad at all. You could always talk him down though. Tell him you have to flush the entire fuel system and buy a new battery. $750 sounds better. And none of that is a lie either.

Normally i would say to drain the fuel out Peters but i meant only a tiny ammount, like about 1-2miles worth of riding. Ideally yes drain it before refilling it. Just saying tho the 2 scoots i saved in the past had both sat years with a tiny ammount of fuel in them, one had a plastic tank but the other had steel. Both still run great now and have never missed a beat, i know because i sold one to my neighbour and still own the other, not my A50. I checked the steel tank recently cos im rebuilding that scoot and it is nice and clean inside with zero rust. Maybe i got lucky, just sayin tho, it worked for me. Ideally tho youre right, if you can then drain out the old fuel and replace it.
Chaos is my co-pilot.
