Source for jets in USA
« on: May 16, 2013, 09:43:48 PM »
Hey,

I can only find overseas sources, and kits that include an assortment of jets for $40.

also i can't figure out thread pitch on jets it seems there is a lot of variation. I have a stock carb.

Looking for a source where i can order a single jet at a time or a few of my choice (not pre packaged set) and not overcharged on shipping or wait forever for it to arrive.

also i see some are drilling out jets. I wonder since we are talking fractions of a millimeter that its not an exact science when done without machines even if you think youhave the "right" drill bit, . As I understand the only accurate way to measure holes like this is with a metric pin gage set and I cant find one less that $100. if you drilled out jets how did you do it accurately and how did you measure to be sure.

Didn't think of that, thought they would just have stock parts. Do they have a wide variety at the dealer, like if I want an 88 jet they should have it?

When it comes to jets, performance matters more than measurement.

I drill my own jets. its nort htat hard to do. you can also file theam bigger. they make small files you can get at harbor fright. or use the small dremal drills. There is a guide that shows you how on here some wear. it tells you the size you need for the jet size.

Local dealer does not have jets! The dealer here doesn't sell anything but the most common parts, mostly accessories.

I bought a set of micro drill bits #61-#80 and started experimenting with drilling jets (have two a 80 and 82) they fit on my dremel. finding out this is not an exact science

I started with the 80 jet, I test fit bits in it, the #69 (0.74mm) fit inside but the #68 (0.79mm) did not, if the #68 is smaller shouldn't it fit in the hole?

now the weird thing is the #68 will not fit in the 82 either, it's supposed to be 0.03 mm smaller, how can this be?

So I drilled the 82 out with the #68, no idea how big it "really" is now. Put it in but buggered up the bowl gasket so can't run it right now(another post about that)

I would much rather just get a set of different jets of known size, like a 85, 88, 90, 92 etc, than messing with drilling and having no idea what you're getting. If anyone knows a place to order a set let me know.
