too bad.

my first two "scoots" were Puch mopeds (austrian manufactured, i think). somewhere along the line i thought i heard that Tomos bought them back in the 80's.

Almost completely correct info. Puch sold license to Tomos in 70's to manufacture some of the mopeds they abandoned due to competition.
Mid-80s Piaggio has purchased Steyr-Puch company and since then Puch is owned by them and produces exclusively heavy duty 4WD systems.
Not vehicles or motorcycles anymore.

TOMOS means .... TOo Many Other Scooters!!!! They just can't keep up with the growing competition...  simple as that...
