My Vacation
« on: October 12, 2012, 07:02:55 PM »
Wow, all I can say is wow.  I live in New Jersey but spent time on vacation in London and Paris.  What I saw was hard to believe for a guy from NJ.  Scoots and motorcycles by the hundreds.  The streets were loaded with what appeared to more 2 wheelers than 4 wheelers.  That was OK but the really surprising part was the way the riders drove.  Eight days and no accidents witnessed were amazing.  I have never imagined that with all of the weaving in and out in traffic, cutting in front of trucks, cars and busses and not paying attention to pedestrians, not one accident.  And in Paris noone paying attention to traffic laws.  Absolutely amazing.  She wanted to see Big Ben, The Tower of London, Windsor Castle, The Louve, etc, etc, etc.  It was all very nice and I suppose that eventually this tired feeling will diminish.
For me the last night spent at a topless caboret was on a par with the The Eiffel Tower.  What I will never forget however, is the 2 wheelers whizzing all over the place.  They are amazing fearless, maybe crazy riders.  Wow.

Always love vacation reviews! Thanks for that.

My first trip to Holland opened my eyes with the number of bike's used, outside a college there were thousands upon thousands all chained up in a sea of bike's. Amazing when you see it for the first time for sure.

fshfindr,
You're so right. I remember when I was in Spain two years ago that the entire population seemed to be transported on 2 wheels. We stayed in a small town on the coast north of Barcelona called Bagur
and the roads and streets seemed made for scoots and motorcycles. They were buying fuel by the
liter and the cost came out to be $8 to $9 dollars a gallon. So I think a lot of the 2 wheelers are a
result of petrol prices as well as geography and the tiny narrow stone streets. I wonder if we Americans can shift to a more economical means of travel when our fuel costs are at $9 to $10 a
gallon? It will and is happening sooner than we think. When I was in Australia in 1982 they were paying around $4 a gallon and I was stunned! Never in the good ol USA. Well guess what. That's what we're paying on a good day so those prices, ($9-$10), are gradually encroaching on our
economy and we are asleep at the wheel or so apathetic that we sit back and take it. Thanks for
post and send us some pictures.
Mike

Welcome to Europe Fshfinder  ;D

Glad you enjoyed it, shouldve visited Scotland tho, maybe next time  :)

London rush hour is a sight to see indeed but Paris  :o Whole other level  :D

Personally i love the spanish islands, Mallorca, Menorca, Lanzarote, and my favorite island Feurteventura where i hope to retire. You should check out some of the less tourist parts of these islands maybe too, its so laid back its horizontal, and scoots everywhere. Even the cops ride scoots and dont bother anyone. Love it.

Post up some snaps if you got any good ones. And visit Scotland next time you fool  ;)
Chaos is my co-pilot.

I just wanted to point one thing out. If every 7-10 years prices on everything double you'll see how fast fuel prices will climb now that they are into the mutil dollor bracket. $4.00 today means $8 in 10 yrs. $8.00 today means $16.00 in 10 years etc...

We'll be going electric and other alternate means including scooters.
