People 50 very hard to start, but is great when warm
« on: July 12, 2009, 04:22:33 AM »
I have a new-to-me 2004 People 50 with 900 miles (1,400 kilometers) on it which is fantastic once it gets warmed up.  Will go for hours, idles fine, can stop and start at will.

The problem is when it is cold.  Press the starter and it will usually start, but at a very slow idle, touch the throttle and it dies.  After a few minutes of playing with it and it warms up, the idle picks up to normal and it is good for the day.

It sat for 6 months before I bought it, we removed the carb and gave it a good cleaning.

Any thoughts as to where to start looking?  I don't want to mess with any of the settings that affect it when warm since it works so well at that point.

Thanks!

I had the same problem when I bought my used people 50 . I changed my spark plug to a NGK iridium and ran a couple of tanks of gas with 1 oz per gal of seafoam additive and it cleared up . Good luck .

Seafoam is a multi-functional gasoline and crankcase additive that I have found to be very effective in cleaning the fuel delivery system as well as stabilizing the fuel .
