Kymco People won't start (spark).
« on: October 15, 2012, 11:04:49 PM »
Hi all. This has got me completely baffled (I admit, not so hard to do). My Kymco 150 just all of a sudden refused to start a while back. Turning over fine, just no spark. So I changed the plug and nothing. Then I unscrewed the spark plug cap from the coil cable, cut off the end to get a fresh connection, screwed cap back on and tested for spark inserting plug and touching to metal. There was spark. Put plug back in and scoot started right up. Got home, turned engine off, tried to restart and again no spark!

So I though maybe a new spark plug cable/coil would fix it. Ordered one, put it on and it started right up. Turned it off, and tried to restart--same as before no more spark.

Now after initial start up, I cannot get plug to spark with test. What could be happening that would allow it to start once and then no spark right after? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks a lot. It's driving me crazy.

Check to see if kill switch is not malfunctioning. Other things to check are the coil and the CDI box. Hope you find the problem.

Thanks for responding, what's the easiest way to check the kill switch?  Can I disable it?  Wiring is def not my strong suit...
