Mxu shorting our when wet
« on: February 09, 2013, 12:19:51 AM »
Every time I get my mxu 500 I wet it has a short that drains the battery.  I can take the key out and hit the kill switch but it does all kinds of weird things like lights flashing, clicking noises. Any help  or tricks please reply

Take the panels off, clean and dry all the electrical connectors, then wrap them tightly in self amalgamating tape

I had a 4 wheeler once and had to take all the connectors apart and fill them with
dielectric grease to keep the water out..

you need to dielectric grease every connection on the bike. i had this same issue.  now mine is snorkeled and i can take it in water so deep you can only see the snorkels.

A volt meter set to amps placed between the pos lead and pod terminal will show any current pull on your bike. Having an assistant pull the fuses one at a time whilst you watch the meter is the way to identify on which circuit the fault exists.

When the leaking circuit is broken by removing the fuse, the current will drop to nothing.

Haven't got a volt meter? A low wattage bulb with wire soldered to the connectors will suffice
