Kymco Owner's Manuals
« on: January 12, 2013, 05:48:10 PM »
Most of you already know the shortcomings of Kymco owners manuals. Actually, I thought my Yager manual was pretty good. Most of the stuff seemed to be where it was shown and stuff seemed to pretty much operate as they said. The manual that came with wifey's new Like 200i is dismal. Looks like they cribbed most of it from some other scoot and it does not apply to the Like. Like the "Mode" and "Adjust" buttons for the neat little built-in digital clock. The functions are actually reversed from the instructions. Check the Like 200i section for the fiasco on the oil filter (they ain't one). Some of you older guys can remember the manuals that came with the '60s Hondas. The books matched the cycles, the syntax was a challenge and they got better as time wore on and we got better at reading it! Personally, I would be full-tilt agitated if I were some big-shot at Kymco USA and would be hot on the trail to correcting this problem. But I am sure most of the office drones at Kymco USA are MBAs and those people don't care anything about this kind of stuff. Boy, what a rant, huh? I am currently asking the dealer for a flash drive download of the service manual. Got that idea from some of youse guys right here on the forum. Will advise.

I found the 300i service manual and the Yager manual it's 170i but
I haven't seen the 200i.

I have seen a bunch of different manuals from Kymco and the quality
varies a lot. Either different groups doing them or new people? I imagine
it costs a lot to have a good professorial manual written. The price point
for Kymco is on the lower end so they don't employ the best writers?

I agree the Kymco manuals are weak. The owners manual for my Like 200i is only good for oil changes and tire pressure. Something as critical as valve clearance is not given. They give you the torque requirements for the engine and hub oil drains (BFD). Those are not critical as they just need to be a little more than hand tight. Critical specs for bolt torque on things like the CVT and engine head would be nice.

But not in the owners manual.

I emailed Kymco USA. This is their reply.

We don't have hard copy manuals for the newest KYMCO models.  Your dealer has access to digital copies on the KYMCO dealer's website.  Most dealers will download to your zip drive, or burn to a CD for customers at a nominal charge.

We are also working with Cyclepedia.com on adding this model to the service manuals they offer.  Should be on the Cyclepedia website within the next 4 - 5 weeks.
