Running on Empty
« on: June 13, 2009, 02:21:01 AM »
Greeting to all you 250 Grandvista owners!  Do any of you know how many miles you have left when the gas pump icon on the instrument display starts to blink?  That is to say all the bars on the gas gage are gone and the gas pump icon starts to blink which I’m assuming is to indicate that you are running on reserve.

Out here in Western South Dakota it can be many miles before you find a gas station and many more out in the Badlands where the best open country riding is.  So it would be good if I could put some kind of number on this.

I have a neighbor who has a GV250, so let me ask him. I can say that when the LED comes on on my People 250, I means, "get your ass to a gas station in the next couple of miles, unless you like pushing 367lbs. of dead weight up hills both ways."  :)

This is interesting. My People S250 has very generous gauge and when the LED lights up, there is at least 1/3 of the tank remaining.
The speedometer is generous too, when I am doing 60 km/h it shows 70 km/h. :)

The same is true also for Agility 125. It has a tank of 6 liters and it shows empty when there are approx. 2.5 remaining.

The People 250 has a dual tank, connected by a large hose. The gauge's sending unit is located in the bottom tank. So, it reads full until the bottom tank starts to get low, then it drops rather quickly.

Well, now I'm really confused.  :o

The fuel tank on the GV 250 holds 9.1 Liters or 2.40 Gal., or so says the manual, which is not a hell of a lot.  At, let’s say, 70mpg that’s about 168 miles per tank.  I did notice that the gas pump icon kicks in at about 117 miles.  So, that would maybe give a guy about 45 miles to go.  When I filled up a short distance after the gas pump icon started blinking, luckily I was in town, it took a bit less than 2 gallons to top off the tank.  So….

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

2.4 gallons -- better than the People 250 @ 2.1 gallons.

Yep; this is frustrating. I need to do up my survey of the Natchez Trace, as I would love to do a full tour of it this summer. However, there's not a single sign on it to let you know where fuel can be obtained. The two places I've found fuel off the Trace on the northernmost 90 miles I've traversed so far have been ~20miles off the Trace, itself. And I was lucky to make it to both places.
