12800 miles in a year.
« on: February 06, 2013, 02:37:47 PM »
Hello All:

I have a 2012 Xciting 500ri w/abs and have put 12800 miles on it so far.  February 11th is an important date because it's then that I have to decide if I want to pony up for the extended warranty.

The one I'm considering is the 2 year extension for $575.

I believe that covers everything that the original two year warranty covered.

Have I had problems with the scoot?  Well, yes.  I have a defective drive shaft that will be replaced.  It's allowing grease to migrate into the clutch assembly.  When that happens the clutch discs / pads get contaminated.  It's taken 2 clutch replacements to finally figure that out.

Other than that, the scoot's been flawless.

What say you all?  Should I, or shouldn't I?

At that rate in 4 years you will be near 50,000 miles. I doubt you will have any problems. But you have fuel injection and such also. And that can cost alot to repair. It's up to you. If the $ is no problem, then it may ease your mind as you have had the shaft problem, and you may be a little gun shy now about giving up the warranty? I am near 40,000 on my X500 (2007) now with no problems except for a belt issue that was found to be an install error, and not the bikes fault. It's up to you? :-*

Thanks to everyone so far.

I decided to not purchase the extension.  I threw this out to some of the KYMCO people in my area and they agreed.  These scoots are really pretty reliable. :)

Good forum..

I would personally spend the 575 and get the 2 year extension.  I have not had any problems with my 2009 xc 500ri about 14000 miles.  In two years at that rate you are close to 50 thousand miles. I think one major repair would cover that cost.  It is just insurance and you are the  one person who is going to put enough miles on the bike to test the limits.  I am riding about 5500 miles a year not a good investment for me.

I wish I could ride more and drive less!

Just make sure that the warrenty your buying, or considering buying, actually extends your warrently and doesn't cover the year or so you have left on the current warrenty!

I've seen it happen sadly.

I have ride 10000 miles in 8 months with my xciting 500i R abs. I live at Spain.

I bought the scooter with 5000 miles.

At 7000, the clutch started to do a lot noise. Had to be replaced covered by the warranty.

That's the only problem I had.

The motorcycle has already two years.

When I bought it came with a Malossi variator. The fuel consumption was too high. I changed again the variator using the original, but I left the malossi spring at clutch.
That's the way I like my xciting

If I have to stop, I will die.
