Mysterious raspy/buzz sound Help
« on: January 20, 2013, 03:20:31 PM »
I have been having a buzzing noise when I'm up to speed and 1/4 throttle. It seems to go away with more throttle. I thought it was my reeds so I got new ones ans installed them. Still same noise. I pretty sure it's not the exhaust all the bolts are tight. I thought it might be ping or detonation problem. Plz help I'm scared to ride because the raspy buzz sounds bad. It just seems like it happen at the top end of mph at low speeds I'm good.

Thanks
Stu

What engine, and miles?  What's the setup?

Liquid cooled Super 9's can produce a ticking sound at idle, and in bad cases it can be heard over the engine with throttle applied.

The 3 plastic dampers inside your variator can wear out and cause problems.

If the problem seems to be more centered around deceleration then I would double check the variator.  Also, sometimes with Dr. Pulley slider weights you'll hear some extra noise on deceleration, idle, and lower throttle positions.  The tradeoff is worth it in my opinion, for a street bike anyway.

Best,

I have an AC with malossi 70cc kit with 10000km. The noise happen when I'm cruising at 40 turning like 7500 8000rpm. Just when I get on the throttle about 1/4 when more throttle is applied it goes away. I check the drive line and it looks pretty good.

I don't think it's the plastics bc I have most removed. Do you hink I need a 19 or 21 carb for the 70cc? Like I said it buzzes when I'm barely on the throttle. When I give it more it goes away. Do u think I need to up my pilot jet? I did drill it out. Also in the stock carb I can't adjust the needle. I tryed to use a small washer but it will not lock in could that be causing it to be rapper out the exhaust.

It just scares me that it blowing up. I soft seized the last kit.

Thanks

...i had bad experiences...hold up pretty well in a 4t, but wear out quickly in a 2t...

..and a 38 pilot jet  will be reeal close, i'd bet...since you apparently are still running the oem airbox...

..you should lose that...    ;)

..honestly, i'm very worried about that 90 main jet...seems like it would be a bit lean...

..my 2005 oem lc 50cc with malossi air filter and tecnigas next pipe chops at a 118 main and a 38 pilot...

..also have a 2002 ppl which runs a 115 main, 38 pilot, with screw @ 3/8...

...same pipe and filter as is on the s9...

...on both of these scoots oem carbs, i had to modify the needles to raise them .025"

..pipes and filters need that mid-range fuel mix enrichment to perform...or to be able to add their expected performance increase...

..the oem carb needles aren't adjustable....sssso...
