Issues with rainy weather starting

Last week my scoot was in the rain for about 36 hours. It took a real soaking and afterwards wouldn't start up. In fact I ran the battery down trying. After two days I was able to jump start it and everything seemed fine, except now the least bit of moisture in the air, and it won't start again. In the past this was never a problem, it would always start no matter what the weather conditions. I've been told that maybe the battery, which is the original, needs to be replaced. I will be testing it out this weekend, as soon as I can retrieve it from my workshop where I had to leave it today because, yes, it would not start up again after the rain this afternoon. It's a '06 50cc Agility.

To the experts out there...does this sound like battery to you, or do you have other ideas about what may be going on? Like I say, I had no problem with starting no matter the conditions prior to the soaking it took last week. Thanks for any helpful info!

make sure the air filter is dry. And did you cut your cdi at all because if so the cut should be covered so it dont get wet. most scoots can take a big wet storm at times its when the scoot is moveing that hurts it. Just go threw and make sure something didnot get wet that shoulden have.
seafoam well be a good idea in the gas to help the carb or some dry gas. check the lines going to the filter make sure they are tight and no water got in.

If the engine cranks up, battery is not the problem... sometimes it's a loose air intake housing, cover, or filter where water can seep in the carburetor...

Thanks for the replies. The cdi was cut by the previous owner, and he covered it with duct tape, which seems to be aging a bit...hmm. The cdi unit itself was sitting in about a half inch of water, but not high enough to get into that cut. I took the air filter off today, and it seemed dry, although there also seems to be a slight coating of grease (?) around the inside of the air filter housing. I don't know if this is normal. The scoot will have been inside for two days before I take it out tomorrow when the rain/snow stops. We should have a dry couple of days before the moisture comes again, so I'll see what happens at that point!

I took my brand new Yager apart and put dielectric grease in all the connections to stop
moisture from getting in.

Something is still moist and gets worst with rain in the air. I'd  look at the airfilter.
Grease around it is fine that will help it seal (and not let any dirt in).

You might spray all the electrical connections with Deoxit. Great stuff! It cleans and
enhances the connection.

The CDI sitting it water is a bad thing! Those things aren't made like they used to so
might let water inside to do all kinds of damage. Here's a pic of the circuit inside there;

If it was the battery then it would be the same in all weathers.

You might need to strip it down and check for water in all the electrics etc related to starting.

A little oil in the filter box is normal on an A50, its just condensation etc, they all do it.

Bad plug? Bad plug wire or cracked connector?

The solution was a new spark plug. I first replaced the battery (it tested poor, and since it was the original, probably needed to be replaced anyway). But that didn't solve the problem, so I tried a new spark plug...and it's been great since. It's already been rainy and cold out, and it still starts right up. I'm pretty confident the problem is solved. Thanks for all the help!
