2008 Xciting 500 Value
« on: March 08, 2013, 01:06:23 AM »
Looking at a used '08 Xciting 500, just over 1,400 (one thousand four hundred) miles on it.  Has an oversized windshield (don't know brand).  Has some slight scuff marks along one side (like it rubbed up against a white garage door jamb).  Price has been $4,400 for a couple of months and has now dropped to $4K.  Saw another one in a paper with only 200 miles and he is asking $5,900.  KBB shows $2,860 retail sale at a dealer.  Any ideas on what a fair price would be?

KBB is usually high too so that's why it's still for sale months later. People think their stuff
is worth more than everybody else's. I'd offer $2500 and show them the trade in price from KBB
at $1900...

Low miles on both, but way to high priced. They think because the miles are low that the bikes are like new. But what they don't understand is that the bikes must have been setting for quite some time, and there may be problems with clogged jets, bad diaphram if carbed, and so on. I have seen left over new X500's on cycle trader for $4,000 with a 2 year warranty. Also, the bike is 5 years old now. I paid $1,950 for my low mile 2007 3 years ago, and I had carb issues because it had sat for a year. It would not idle, but sea foam and riding it for quite some time cleared up that issue. Test ride and offer a firm $1,900 and go up to $2,000 max. The bike also has a white scrape on it? My 2 cents. :-*

is it fuel injected?  i have a 2009 xc 500.  I bought mine with 9000 miles and some dinged up plastics slightly cooked gauge cluster for $2000. I put about $650 dollars into it new plastics and rear tire. Soon to ad new tire to list.  Best $2650 ever spent.  I had a 2007 xc 250 awesome bike no fuel injection.  I really like fuel injection.

Next one is having abs too.

I wish I could ride more and drive less!

Sounds very high to me. I got a killer deal on mine. 2009 Xciting 500 RI with a 50 litre Shad trunk, 1 owner, dealer maintained, 6K miles, does have a few scratches and scrapes. I gave $2100. Then I sold the trunk for $150 on eBay.

Then bought a used  Givi windscreen for $60 and a smaller 35 litre Bestem trunk for $85. Great deals are out there, it just takes research, persistence and patience.
