Stripped nuts and bolts, a little bummed

I bought a new/old stock 2009 super 8 a couple days ago.  Being a body man/fabricator/painter, the first thing I did when getting it home was to tear it apart in preparation for a black/white paint conversion installing BMW emblems, reminescent of the European BMW Policia special scooters.  Yes, I am also a BMW motorcycle owner.  I started with the seat and seat tub, and was surprised to find two nuts and bolts stripped upon removal.  A few minutes later I went to the foot pegs and found two of the four alan head bolts were stripped upon removal.  The worst one was the one in the bottom of the battery tray, that was just a shaft that once was a bolt.  I spend a couple hours running taps and dies to restore these situations.  Keep in mind, this is a brand new scooter, and the strippage was found upon disassembly, not reassembling process, by a professional mechanic.

My question about Kymco scooters, is this typical?  I really hope mechanically this scooter is more sound than the body parts. 

Wrench heads, do tell if I got a lemon or not.

Often I have found that the hardware was over-torqued during manufacture.   If,  for some reason someone prior to you may have tried to loosen some of these bolts,  they likely could have been damaged.  Hate to say it,  but maybe the part was removed for someone and then a replacement installed by another party.   The major issue I've found is damage to the plastic panels from long term vibration,  removal and reassembly and even accidents.  The mounting sprues / studs on the front cowling will easily strip out as they have self-tapping screws.  I have drilled them out and JB welded 6-32 threaded inserts into the studs.  These are the steel inserts that have a flange on the open end for spot welding.  Some of the panels having molded broken plastic tabs have steel washers JB welded to them.  This can be quite time consuming as it usually takes 24 hours to cure the JB.

I have done so much work,  I bought the $80.00 hot air welder at Harbor Freight and will be using it in the future.  Also have the Metric Tap and Die Set.

Your local hardware as well as Tractor Supply or Lowes usually have drawers of nuts, bolts, screws, etc. that are direct replacements.  Another back-up I've found are the Nylon washers and spacers that I've used in various locations.  Of course, alignment in installing some screws and bolts is not always easy and can cause stripping.  Just remember,  if you can do your own work,  you may be further ahead than to trust some mechanics.

In one case I bought one of those hammer operated screwdrivers where you hold the body,  turn it in the loosen / tighten direction and hit it with a hammer to break it loose.

I agree the dealer probably "borrowed" parts to use on other bikes. I know on my
Yager I ruined some parts trying to remove them. The factory uses some amazing
torque on those fasteners! Never stripped any holes though I just mangled the heads
 of the bolts.

Your experience is NOT typical of Kymco. It IS typical of dealer shops. I am not familiar with that particular scooter but it sounds like it may be in the area that a dealer tech would touch for set-up. I have had three Kymcos: Agility 50, Yager "200"i and now a DT 300i. I have not yet seen what you describe from the factory. The dealer that sold me the Yager sorta forgot to install the battery cover/clamp. Took forever and involvement by Kymco USA to get him to send me the cover. He did not send the correct bolts, however, and I had to get some from Lowe's.
