GIVI D294ST windshield questions

Howdy everyone!  I've been lurking for a few weeks, and love everything you guys post - so helpful!  I wanted to introduce myself and ask some questions about the new windshield I bought. 

I bought my 2013 Kymco Downtown 300i (burnt orange) on 7/2, brought it home on 7/6 and have already put 500 miles on it!  I'm loving it so far - I have never owned a scooter or motorcycle, but my dad has two Kymcos, so he got me hooked on it.

I recently ordered & received the Givi D294ST windshield from Helmet Head in Georgia.  There aren't any instructions with the windshield, which is enough to drive this poor engineer crazy.  I got the windshield off with no issues, but I remember reading in one of the posts that some of you have done other stuff when putting different windshields on.  O-Rings, special lubricant, etc? 

I thought I had read about some folks having issues with the Givi cracking, so obviously anything I can do to avoid that is preferred.

I'm sorry if these questions have been answered before - so much info on here to sort through and keep track.

Use the 'search' function ,  reduce the noise by filtering only for this particular 'downtown' forum.

An engineer would not want to 'stress' the plastic windshield with a metal screw.  Somewhere in the midst of all my changes I got some black plastic washers for the four hex bolts, therefore no metal stressing plastic windscreen.

A good hardware store will have o-rings the right size.  Measure the hole in your windshield, better yet drill the proper sized hole in a scrap piece of plastic and take it with you, or just take the windshield in the store.

  take a look at your old windshield and remove the rubber inserts and reinstall on new wind shield one at a time ,.  and for the front piece follow instructions that came with new windshield,  and good luck with your ride,.

  you dont want O rings for the windshield,. you want hole rubbers with a flange on both sides of the hole and a short piece of tubing so the bolt does not touch the plastic, you will see this on your old windshield,.

Just installed my new GIVI windshield and used the old screws, rubber grommets and the bolt behind the Kymco logo at the bottom of the windshield. It took about 20 minutes from start to finish. Just came back from a 70 mile ride and what a difference. I am 5'11" and there is almost not buffering. There is a sweet spot between 55 to 65 but all the way up to 80 there is no buffering. I think this was money well spent. The people at Helmet Head were great to deal with. I got my windshield in 5 days.

As Hopper did, I replaced the stock windshield with the Givi and just used the parts that the stock one came with.  So far, I'm loving it!

Why not just use the parts from the stock windshield?  Or do some people have one set for the new windshield and one set for the stock?
