Makes you think about your position when you stop behind other traffic.

Years ago, I was involved in a traffic accident...  a 4-car crash .... first car stopped, second car (me) stopped, third car stopped, fourth car brakes failed...   he hit the third car, that hit mine, and hit the first...  Fourth car was a rich guy... paid for all the damages...   After that time, I'm always very cautious of what's behind me ... when ever I hit my brakes, I automatically look whats behind me.... a habit not everyone is doing...

Holy sh**...

Makes me think of one that nearly happened to me about a year ago - heading to work. (intersection of Portland and Franklin, for those of you in the Minneapolis area)

Heading south on a 3-lane one-way street, center lane to avoid the backup of folks turning right at what is always a busy intersection I see the crossing signal at the lights start to flash and back off the throttle some since I know the lights are about to change, increase my following distance from the cage in front of me. He enters the intersection (the light is still green) and BOOM. Idiot in a caddy SUV comes steaming through the red from the left and t-bones him at way over the speed limit. Victims car does a 270 and ends up wrapped around the light pole on the corner and the idiots car stops half way into the right lane.

The driver that got hit made it, although he was in a bad way and they had to cut the vehicle apart to get him out. When I heard the lady driving the SUV swearing at the top of her voice to the cops that her light was green it made me VERY glad I'd stuck around to say what I'd seen. If I'd left home 30 seconds sooner that morning I wouldn't be typing this because my scoot would be in fragments and so would I because the impact would have probably pitched me clear over the edge of the overpass onto I35W in rush hour. Even if it didn't there's no way I'd have survived a side impact at that speed.

Yes, they really ARE trying to kill us :P

Oh hell yes. I sometimes get nervous pushing a cage through that one. Sometimes out there the stupid gets real thick.

Same here.  Last year, some young woman was following me and when I stopped for a yellow light that was turning red, she didn't.  I had been watching her as she had been following too close to begin with.  I was able to move forward about 18 inches and she turned to avoid me - ended up beside me with her bumper missing me by about an inch.  Of course she then started yelling at me, that I should have gone through the intersection instead of stopping for a green light!.  I would have argued with her, but as the saying goes, "you can't fix stupid."

Last fall I had a delivery driver side swipe me. She was turning right with her blinker on and at the last minute as I was passing her she turns left. I never knew a bruise could get so dark in color. And last all winter too. And as you say bleys you can't fix stupid.

Mine to.  I always look for an escape route when coming to a stop.  After seeing this vid (on another forum) I've been extra careful.
