Introduction, rant about delayed shipment
« on: April 28, 2013, 11:53:11 PM »
Hi all. First I'd *like* to say I'm very happy to find a forum dedicated to this apparently great littke scoot.

I am a Canadian living in the capital city of Ottawa so that affords me 6-7 months of riding.  Maybe a few weeks added depending on how late the snow can sometimes take to arrive.

This will be my first motorized two wheeler and Im quite excited to drive it but its been a headache just waiting for it...

You see, I went to the top rated of two kymco dealers we have here in Ottawa looking for a People S125.  They have one in stock so thered be no waiting for it. After determining that it just fell short of my needs (alot of 2-up) the dealer really pushed the like 200i.  It turns out I would have paid for the trunk box seperately on the people so for a few more cc and a few more dollars we ordered the like. I really need a trunk on a scooter for any practicality.

Anyway, that was March 6th and its now the end of April and I still can't manage to get a straight answer from the dealer OR kymco canada for that matter, on when I can expect the bike.  Every time I speak to the dealer they basically people-please and assure me its on its way but I suspect they have no idea.  Kymco Canada wont even answer my email half the time and when they do they tell me they don't have exact shipping dates so I ask for approximate dates and they don't answer...

Sorry for the rant!  Has anyone else experienced this mysterious shipping anomoly that is kymco?

Hi welcome to the forum,. you have to be very patient,. when I ordered my 300i downtown in dec. 17 2010, I did not receive the scooter till june 26 2011,. I was on the verge of canceling may and june but I hung on ,. when I checked the variator the date on the parts was april 2011 so most of my wait it was not built yet,. they are getting better every year ,. so your wait should not be to long,. what part of ottawa are you in east or west ,. I usually run around the east side  and still bug derand  motor sports once in a while,.

Hi dee dee,

I'm on the west side.  I did go through Derand as they have a huge selection and a gold star on kymco canada.

Bought helmets from Gearheads in Bells Corners since the 3/4 helmets were around $10 cheaper than Derand for the same models on the shelf already.

Thanks for the reassurance, I just hope to have the bike in two weeks.  Andre told me when he spoke to kymco on wed. that the container landed in Vancouver.  We shall see!

I almost went for the downtown 300 but my girlfiend loves the look of the like. The price is pretty great too.

Well I got a blessing today.  It turns out the dealer made a few mistakes on the contract and needed me in to sign a new one.

Just for the fun of it I called the Ottawa Goodtime Centre to see what they said about the Like 200i.  Wasn't I surprised when the guy told me he had it in stock, so I made sure to clarify; "in stock here in Ottawa?", he replied; "yep" and proceded to tell me I could drive it off as soon as tomorow!

If I had stuck with the original dealer I'm sure I'd be waiting another few weeks to ride.  I went in, signed some stuff, and sat on my Like.  It is bigger in person, I think because when you see their pics they have tall skinny models with their knees up against the handlebars!  Plus I suspect they photoshop the models on there since their body position is strikingly similar on other bikes.

Anyway, so happy now, I'll be hitting the streets tomorow evening!

Ps. The first dealer had 2012 model on the contract and total cost was going to be just over $200 more. New dealer 2013 model and less expensive.

Great! Enjoy it. It's a fine scooter and the fuel injection will be a plus in the great white north. :D

Rode for the first time today.  After about 20 minutes of parking lot and industrial area practice I put about 50 kilometers of regular traffic on it.  I'm so impressed by this machine; the acceleration, control, suspension, braking.  My favorite is probably off the line pep, even riding 2-up which was most of the mileage.

Really comfortable too. I had no problem with the seat.  The only thing I'll be changing right away is the stock mirrors. I can see just fine if I slouch a bit more than is comfortable, but I woukd like them a bit higher and wider with more surface area.

Loving my Like!!

Congrats on your new Like 200i. One of the best values out there today. BTW....You don't need to replace your mirrors. Just buy these mirror extenders from Ebay. I bought two sets & they work like a charm! You'll get appx. 1 3/4 in width & 1" in height. Problem solved. Good luck!
