Antsy for my scoot...
« on: March 26, 2013, 11:36:45 PM »
So... I just ordered a new xc500 from my local dealer a week ago. There's still about 3 weeks to go til it gets here. And the weather is warming up faster than I thought,  it could be riding temps in the morning in less than two weeks. Is there a cure for the GimmeMyScootNowDammit syndrome?

I had a worse nightmare... when I bought my scoot, it was already in the dealer...I can see it, touch it, sit on it, but cannot take it home because of some lacking customs papers...dang! Rode it after two months... under very heavy rain!   Cure? Break a leg? Nope! I can ride with a broken leg...
There's no cure man! Welcome to the club!

I needed a bigger ride. The office relocated me to another building in the same city where I theoretically could get there on a smaller scoot but would have been a grease spot on the road in seconds if I'd tried to make some of those exits on a smaller machine.  So it was either go back to a bike after all these years or get a maxi. Having painful personal experience of how hard it is to train oneself to not instinctively grab a handful of "clutch" at just the wrong time and spill myself all over the road,  I'm not going to try and retrain myself the other way at my age,  so maxi it was :)

Grrrrr... dealer calls me today,  tells me that he can't get his hands on a grey one until June. Of course I'd rather ride a gold one than not ride one so I asked how soon that could be obtained. "Oh, end of next week.... " I'm not pissed at having to switch colors, I'm pissed that he didn't call me sooner and I might have had it for the first decent riding weather we're gonna have this year. He'd better not be blowing smoke up my ass with that timeline or he's gonna find his online reputation getting some serious unlovin'!

Heh, Vivo - Not when I am about to have to give the car back to my wife because she needs it for her business and I dont have a suitable ride to get to the new office location. Then waiting is a source of either domestic or workplace tension, neither of which is an optimal outcome. I suppose I could risk a few runs on the little one but that's something I really dont want to do on those particular roads. Places where one can barely make the speed limit and all the cagers are driving 10mph faster than you could do downhill with a following wind are not safe places to ride, particularly not so if you have to make any left turns during rush hour!

Tomorrow!  Finally! Just talked to 'em and they are just finishing up the setup. Of course that's too late for two of the most perfect riding days ever this week and I'm likely going to be riding it home, sticking it in the garage and grumbling as the storms roll through tomorrow afternoon,  but at least I'll have it.

Just as long as the weather holds off enough that I can get little detour in on the way home... Just to get used to the new ride,  of course ;)

Riding days are here and school is still in session.  I drive carpool for two of my sons and two of our friends children in the afternoon and it is ruining my riding time. Kids are out of school soon and my peak riding season begins.  I cannot wait.  May 27-August 16 is scooter season.

Grrrr.. They called me this morning and tell me "it seems to be dripping coolant from somewhere,  we'll call you as soon as we've found out what's up" 5 hours later no news. Something obviously either got dinged or shook lose in transit, but it shouldn't take 5 hours to take off the plastic, pressurize the system and locate the problem! This is getting ridiculous, and the weather is about to go to sh**....

Edited to add: They redeemed themselves,  got it home a couple minutes ago.  Turns out something had thumped it in transit,  lightly scratching a couple of pieces of the tupperware and loosening a hose. The hose is fixed and they'll replace the plastic at the 600. Now to take advantage of the break in the weather to hit a local parking lot for some practice and after that a few local roads so that I'm confident enough to be safe riding to work tomorrow.
