Is the sidestand meant to not stay down?
« on: July 28, 2013, 07:45:07 PM »
Hi

I've just bought my daughter a 2004 Super 9 S and owned many bikes/scooters, but never owned one with a sidestand that won't stay in the down position. This one won't as the bolt has a long end on it which stops the spring holder from swinging down. It this normal behaviour on these to always flick up? I can just see the scooter rolling off the stand on slight inclines. Maybe its some 'safety' feature for those who can't remember to flick it up before driving off. So before I get the grind wheel out I thought I'd see if this is how they are or if this isn't the right stand bolt.

Cheers.

Don't know about your model, but when I test drove my xc and parked it in the owner's drive (slight downhill) it almost rolled off the sidestand. Seems to be Kymco's calling card.  A grinder will save you a lot of grief...
Normal is boring.

I have a 2004 Super 9 also (original owner.)  The side stand DOES stay down but the geometry has never really give me any confidence.  Seems like one small nudge could knock the scooter off of it.  When in public places, I always use the center stand, and in my garage I am super careful when I leave it on the side stand.

That being said, the Super 9 is an outstanding, fun vehicle........

I don't use the side stand unless my bike is on level ground or facing uphill. On slight downhills, I use the centre stand.

Thanks All. Wil B thanks for the information. This stand won't stay down as soon as the weight of the scooter is taken off the stand it flips up.

I think the grind wheel is coming out!
