Fair price?
« on: May 21, 2013, 07:19:46 PM »
Hello all been looking into getting a good commuter scooter for work(60 mile round trip 4 to 5 times a week)...A local dealer has a new leftover 2010 Xciting 250 for $4300 out the door.....Is that a fair price?...how many MPG do these bikes usually get?

Thanks A lot

That is not a bad price especially if it is truly "out the door."  You should expect between 55-65 mpg depending on how you ride.  That has been my experience anyway.  One thing to note - the Xciting does fine up to about 65 mph, but struggles to do 70-75 - this puts you right at redline, so if you are planning to ride on the Interstate, keep this in mind.

What machine would you recommend from Kymco in the same general price range that would be better on the highway?

Dont know about price range since you're looking at a darn good deal there, but you want something with 300cc or more, and configured so it is comfortable eating up the Highway miles. I recently faced a similar search and ended up with that 250s bigger brother,  the 500. Most definitely not in the same price range though, as it wasn't a leftover. That will get me to 70 with a few k still left to go before the redline.

I was able to score a new (2012) People GTI300 in January for under $5000.00 out the door. A little more money, but plenty of power for the interstates. I've got 600 miles on her, and She'll run 80 no problem.

I would recommend the Downtown 300 or People GTI 300, which you may find a left over or slightly used bike for under $5000, although you may need to do a lot of searching.  They may even get a little better gas mileage.  A Xciting 500 will cost more new, but used ones can often be found in good shape.  Very highway capable, but not as good on gas.  However less maintenence is required on the 500 and this may help even up the driving cost.  Good luck.
