2013 'Super 9 - Agility' frame backwards compatability
« on: June 06, 2013, 01:29:53 PM »
Hey all - noob to the site and scooting so pardons if my questions have been asked and answered elsewhere - I have looked but couldn't find anything applicable to my dilemma. Just to preface - though I am new to scooting I do have a B.S. in mech. eng. and have worked on all sorts of mechanical systems my entire life - and although I have 'tinkered' with scoots off and on I never really got into them until recently and I'm having a lot of fun educating myself as much as I can but certain specs/schematics/etc. I'm having an issue finding so I figured I'd go to the guys that have 'been there done that' for the answer. As anything reading about it and getting your hands dirty are two different things and I figured the best way to really accelerate my learning curve was to dive in - but I'm trying to minimize my expenditures during this learning phase so rather than buying a running scoot for $1000 I'm planning to buy a couple of three non-runners and rebuilding one 'franken-scoot'. Towards that goal I have been able to locate several Kymcos in my area that look tasty for cheap - I'm in Tampa by the way scoot Heaven:-) I'm gonna go 2T for sure but I do appreciate some of the upgrades to the newer models from the ZX50 - the mechanics I have handled - gonna go 1E40MB water cooled with an Airsal Sport Kit, Dr. Pulley variator/weights, etc./etc. the questions I can't answer have to do with parts inter-operability specifically - I can pick up a crashed 'Super 9'
(yes I know the '9' is a CY6 not a Minarelli) for $200 I'm pretty sure its just the front forks and externals that suffered in the crash the frame looks solid to me from all I can see. The question is -

While I know the 'Super 9' frame is a standard frame what suspension/front fork systems is the 2013 'Super 9' 'Agility' frame interchangeable with? Can I go back to the older ZX50's? How far back? I can weld and have worked in several machine shops in my life so creating brackets for custom engine mounting/fitting is not an issue but I obviously can't fabricate front forks/rear shocks/etc. Thanks for any help and I'll be happy to post updates/pics as the scoot comes to life.
