700 miles on the new Like 200i
« on: July 08, 2013, 10:54:40 PM »
I did the 600 mile maintenance according to the owners manual (except the crankcase breather).  The oil was slightly discolored, the oil strainer was clean and all else was good.  I didn't find any loose bolts (including the one on the air cleaner that has come loose on some Likes)  My problem with the starter relay has stopped giving me trouble.  It must have had a burn tit that finally got smacked down.  The performance is better.  It kicks the crap out of my old 125 Riva.  The Riva speedometer would read a high of 67 mph and my Like only goes ~55 mph.  Funny thing is though, the Like is going faster.  The GPS shows the Like speedometer is quite accurate. It is "right on" till 50 on the speedo and the GPS shows 51.  I really felt the Like should go faster than the old Riva but was disappointed at first as I didn't realize the Riva Speedo was so far off.  When I "raced" well, not really raced, but went side by side and cracked the throttles of both, the Like would walk away.  We both weigh the same so it was apples to apples.  I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend this scoot to anyone that wants a dependable, quick, fun ride for short trips to work or just scootin around.  The seat will get to you after a while.  I rode to town and back today ( around 13 miles one way)  plus a mile or two around town.  I was ready for a break.  But I look forward to my wife getting off work and going for a ride with her pretty soon.  One thing...this owners manual has some things that don't seem to add up.  It talks of changing the oil filter at 3000 miles AND cleaning the oil strainer at various mileage points.  I can't find any oil filter.  The strainer is a piece of cake.  Also the crankcase breather.  The hose goes from the cylinder head to a plastic compartment located in the front of the air cleaner which has a plugged hose leading toward the ground.  I assume the plugged hose is to trap misted oil and should be drained from time to time.  However, does that plastic compartment come apart for cleaning? It looks like it could but I didn't want to get rough with it.  Thanks for the posts and the information.   :)

Yes, the oil 'filter' is that screen strainer. (must be an old VW beetle guy on the engineer team)
Did you do the gear oil? (if you haven't - one tip is to collect it and measure it so that you replace with the proper amount)
The seat keeps me jumping off every 40 mins or so.
I've never had a scooter before (just a few Honda motorcycles 40 yrs ago) but I jump out of bed every early AM just to get on this goofy thing!
Taking the long way to work every day!
Folks convinced me to put some Michelin City Grips on, since I'm riding in all kinds of weather - I love them, too.
Do you have a good local dealer for the servicing?
Doing your own servicing (esp. that 600 mile one which the manual SO emphasizes!) will affect your warranty, or no?
1400 miles on mine after 3 mos, only issue I had was finding I needed to top up the brake fluid last w/e.
Nothing came loose -getting around 85mpg
Have changed the oils 4 or 5 times, adjusted the valves twice (only one needed adjusting -just that one time)
Put in an iridium NGK plug which seems to smooth the idle, and increased the idle speed a bit.
Added some long necked Italian  mirrors to see around my big self (6'3", 250lbs)
Added the Kymco crash bars....just cause I like the look.
Using Amsoil scooter-specific synthetic oil now that I made it through the break-in period
FYI - kept pretty religiously to the break-in period as per the owner's manual.
Using 93 BP.

Also, there's a service manual on one of these posts, and http://www.cyclepedia.com/  has a nice service manual avail. for a price. I bought it and use it.

Thanks for the reply Stig.  I did the gear lube at 200 miles.  I downloaded the service manual too.  It was cheap and helpful.  I'm not getting that good of mileage...more like 65 -70 mpg.  I do lots of short trips and not as easy on the throttle as I should be.  My dealer is 300 miles away and they said as long as I record the maintenance there should be no problems with warranty items.  I will switch to synthetic oil after I am convinced the rings have seated.  I should look into the crash bars....Hmmm....How much were they?   Thanks again, Stig...

I wish my Like was getting the same mileage that you guys are seeing!!  The highest mpg I have recorded is 67 mpg but usually it is right at 50 mpg.  Of course, riding at full throttle most of the time will tend to lower the mpg, just a bit!!  lol
