kymco vs piaggio vs buddy
« on: July 03, 2013, 06:02:49 PM »
Newbie here, so appreciate some basic advice as we haven't even visited dealers yet, just picking up online info so far.

My wife and I are looking to buy a scooter primarily to get to train station 1 mile from house, with one medium hill along the way.  Our combined weight is about 360 pounds.  We're looking for something reliable, not necessarily fast or flashy, and would like to spend no more than $3000 for the bike itself.

It looks as if the Kymco has a bigger seat/frame than the other two options we're looking at, the Piaggio Fly 150 or the Buddy 125.

Any comments on the ability of which bike better fits/rides two people, and other comparisons for these three bikes or others in this price range?  Thanks much and happy 4th!

Both the ones you mention and the Kymco's in that price range would do the trick.
I'd go for higher displacement as they usually give you more torque which will move
a higher weight easier. My Yager (170cc) would be perfect but it costed $3500 and is
no longer available. I like it because it is water cooled and fuel injected, plus it has
a flat floor and lots of underseat storage. These are things to consider when comparing scoots...

The fly is the fastest of the 3, the buddy and kymco are probably cheaper though.

piaggio is italian quality and its more durable than kymco
so if you're a man who dont messup the services kymco would be a good choice
kymco super 8 125/150 its a great choice
i have super 8 50cc 4t but its slow with two persons
if you want more comfort you got the piaggio x8
with different engines like 125 . 200 . 250 . 400cc
or aprilia atlantic its a very good choice through
but if you prefer another class like bigger than a scooter
but not as big as atlantic or piaggio x8
you got yamaha xmax 125/250/300cc
or yamaha xcity 125/250cc
let us know more what you prefer

save that 3k for a vacation and walk. thats what I'd do. if I had to pick on, id look at bike and seat length for comfort. some yagers can still be found and would fit the bill perfectly

Thanks for all the replies.

We bought the Kymco Movie 150 for a bit less than $3000, and have really like it so far.  My wife preferred its styling over the Like, Super or other models.  We also checked out the Buddy and the Piaggio, each looked good, but we felt like we were getting more for our money with the Kymco Movie.

I'm brand new to scooters, but it seems like a great buy so far.  Plenty of pick up even with adult passenger, and it looks cool to boot!

The movie is a good choice. I believe it is 4 valve which means
it should make a little bit more power. Ride it and enjoy!

I have a Super 8.  It carries my wife and I with no problems.  It handles great 2 up and has enough power.  The only problem is the seat which is not really comfortable for my wife.  With a better seat we could easily do long rides on the super 8.  The Buddy and Fly are both good scooters but are smaller than the Super 8 and would probably be cramped.  The Movie 150 has a much better seat than the Super 8 and should work great 2 up.

The Kymco Movie is a tad over priced if you ask me. Yes...It has 4-valves, but it still has a carb. The new Piaggio Fly is a better deal (if you can get them from killing on fees) 3-Valve, FI, doesn't need any real service until after 6500 miles. FI is key here folks. If the Movie 150 (still made in Taiwan) had FI, then I would give two-thumbs up! It's still a great scooter just the same. The frame is a tad smallish for me though.
