seat foam I spoke to my upholster
« on: March 25, 2013, 12:31:15 AM »
the upholsterer said go to a upholster shop and pick out the foam you want ,. I picked the firm one for my scoot, now I am ready to begin changing my seat again, I will have the same firmness from front to back of seat,    I picked up a 1 inch wide belt sander to shape the foam,. I was told to wear googles and face filter as the foam is very fine ,. not good to breath or get into eyes,.

What do they charge for that foam? I use a handheld grinder with a sanding disk to shape seat foam.
The belt sander might be difficult to feather in. The dust made is bad, it sticks to everything. Do it
outside or someplace easy to clean. I made a seat for my other bike yesterday but did it differently
(because I didn't have the right foam). I used packing air filled plastic for firmness and foam rubber
for softness. I haven't rode on it yet so not sure how good it works...

finished my new foam seat today I was surprised how easy it was to do, I had a cut off disc for the grinder for steel, it worked better than the belt sander, very good for cutting the foam and shaping it,the foam I used is rebond foam,  it ia 5 lbs. per cu. foot,  very firm foam  4 inches thick it replaces the 8 inches of the other foam I had ,. when I sit on it I am at the same hight ,  I cut a angle to make the seat slope back so I do not slide forward  Ill miss that weggy feeling??? and sore butt., moved the saddle back about 5 inches, so I can move my legs, and arms are reaching farther  forward now,. tomorrow ill do about 200 miles to check how comfortable it is ,.
