transmission oil- Brand?? (USA)

after a short search the only one i see is the Motorex Gear oil
available through Parts Unlimited/ your local bike shop.

anything else out there??

depends on the bike. I have always used NAPA synthetic multi wieght as my fall back, or goto 75-90

In the People 250S section, in an older post,  owners that slightly overfilled the rear unit that used regular petroleum hypoid oil had a problem with oil comming going into the air box. I beleive that regular petroleum hypoid oil aeriates or foams some. I overfilled  mine with a full synthetic with out any problems. (overfill because of how manual describes procedure) You should use the Amount listed instead to avoid over fill on rear unit ( although 2k later still no oil in air box, or leaks). Hope this helps.

Oh, yeah you did ask for brands, And I assume you are talking about the rear unit when you say transmisson -well there is Mobil 1, valvoline synthetic blend, castrol synthec, Bel-Ray and Amsoil synthetic that I can think of. Just get the correct weight. They all sell a 70-90wt and/or 100-140 wt ( something like that). This type oil is for the Rear unit only!!!

i went the the auto parts store to get some gear-case oil today and the user's manual for the people 50 says to use sae 90 oil. At first one of the young guys who works there said they had nothing that "heavy" but i asked the owner anyhow and he said they had some in the marine section. Sure enough even though it was a marine brand it was indeed SAE#90 and on the back it said it could be used anywhere that states to use SAE#90. Typically it is used for the gears of outboard engines so i figured it would be fine. I have been running it for 5 days and 150km and the scooter runs smooth as ever.
