Vivo big storm?!
« on: August 16, 2013, 02:12:36 AM »
Hello Vivo, Saw the news aboout the big storm in the Philippines - hope you and yours are OK. Boy, you weren't kidding about how your Kymco survives 2 dozen typhoons each year! The weather channel here in the States said the same thing....."20 or so typhoons each year." !
Here's wishing you a St Pete Beach calm sunset!

Vivo is in a city called Marikina. It's a valley and usually gets flooded when a nasty storm dumps rain on it.  I live not too far, around 10 to 12 kilometers away but streets around our place go underwater too. It's been raining for the past 4 days and we're still expecting more rains due to a storm coupled with the monsoon rains.  Not much riding we can do.

Andyman - Thank you for the update.
We all hope you and Vivo come through these storms OK.
Please believe that we are thinking about you both and hope soon to hear that all of your weather adventures are finished - for a time at least.
Best regards, Tom/Stig in Ohio

Vivo is most likely cleaning up his place by now.  He probably moved his family to higher ground when the rains started.  There are several hours in the day when the rain would stop; long enough for the water to subside in some areas. Most of Manila is still under at least 3 to 4 feet of water. The cities outside are not too lucky.  It will take days for the water to recede.

Yesterday, during a lull in the storm, I grabbed the opportunity to get on my scoot to the corner 7-11 to get some groceries.  Turns out they were low on supplies too.  So I rode to a nearby store.  The store i'm talking about is a lot smaller than a 7-11.  It retails all sorts of groceries.  Well, they had all that i needed.  These stores are found all over the communities.  We call them "sari-sari" stores. Sari-sari is loosely translated as "all sorts"  or variety.  Anyway,  I was pleasantly surprised that not only did they have groceries, but also some motorcycle stuff.  I could've easily had my oil changed and serviced if it weren't for the bad weather.   So now I know where to go next time when I need eggs, bread, peanut butter and an oil change.

Wow - I read on the news this morning that it was estimated that a whopping 70% of Manila was considered flooded this time - unbelievable!

Hope your's and Vivo's families remain safe and dry

I'm back! well, for now... been very busy monitoring the floods... we have volunteers on our place to do these stuff when disaster visits... Of course we use our motorbikes and scooters to get around... I placed my cars to higher grounds so I won't worry about them... All my living room stuff, tv, stereos, vases, pictures, etc. were all moved to our second floor... (last 2009,we had a 15 foot flood)... Rained very hard for four days and a lot of families from low lying places evacuated to churches, schools, auditoriums. etc. No school for one week, at least my daughter was happy, Lol!... and I wasn't able to report for work for three days... roads are just not passable. Even though the storm did not make land fall, it sucked tons of monsoon rains that caused the floods... a repeat of last year... though last year, water entered my living room and destroyed one car... Thanks for the concern guys... this is my yearly wake up call...
