Need Your help finding beefier 13" or 14" KYMCO shock
« on: July 27, 2013, 06:03:29 PM »
Hello,
I need the help of Kymco scooter owners to find a bit better rear shock absorber for my LIKE 200i LX. (several of us are seeking same~!)
Looking for a beefier 13" shock, or a slightly longer shock (up to 14") measured from center of mounting bolt to other mounting bolt center.
ie: not total length of shock --- but mounting holes length.

1) Do you ride 2-up with a 13" shock with good results? Please tell me what scooter you have ?

2) OR, Are you 220+ lbs and ride good with a shock longer than 13"? Please tell me what scooter you have.

MANY shocks out there - but want to stay with a Kymco shock if possible.

I am 250lbs and 6'3" ....too much rear sag (shock compression) when I sit (yes, spring setting is at stiffest). Want to get the scoot back up - more level, and/or have a better riding shock.

Please note : shock must be a eye-to-clevis shock. as seen in picture. (fork-like mount on bottom)
You would be helping several of us LIKE owners with this same issue.
So, 13 or 14 inch shock and does it work well for big guy or 2-up riding? What scoot?

Many thanks for your help with this!

Why don't you go to fleebay and search motorcycle shocks something like a Vulcan 500 or other 500-750 almost any could be made to fit, a bike shock would have a stiffer spring. The downside to doing this is all that extra weight you might add could stress the frame and cause it to bend or crack.  A single shock puts a lot of stress on the frame......I know I bent mine.  :o

Yep, looking at various scooter brands for a shock, and of course motorcycle shocks. The LIKE would use something like a vintage bike shock (old Honda 750's, even 1000's) Mounting at top is 10mm, bottom clevis mount is 8mm. Many scooter shocks have this, very few motorcycle shocks have these measurements. I have been on the web for 2 1/2 mos looking and placing phone calls.
The biggest issue is that 2% of shocks have spring load ratings listed, spring width, and/or eye to clevis distances listed anywhere!
It requires finding someone to pull shocks off a shelf and measuring them in the warehouse - good luck with that!
OR, finding someone who will tell you that their shock works great with 2-up riding AND how long their shock is. good luck with that!

VIVO gave me  the only response so far!! Good man, Vivo is.
