A9 cam = best upgrade ever
« on: July 24, 2013, 11:33:28 PM »
hey

just installed A9 cam, and OMG, this cam is amazing. comparing stock vs A9, the new cam visibly has a significantly more aggressive profile.

gained power all around, theres this hill i could get up at 22 now im going up at 27 no longer riding white line, doesnt sound like much but this is a 25 mph speed limit road, 22 is dangerous

on the flat the top speed went from 42 to 50+

this is the best single upgrade ive done, gave even more power increase than going 49cc to 72cc!

annnnd... im 280 lbs, a lighter rider would get quite a bit more.

That sounds like the piece of kit i have been waiting for. I'm 260 pounds myself so in fairness my engine has a lot to do on hills anyway!! My only worry is overheating, is it running okay temp wise? I notice you have ended up with a 105 jet, I am running the same set up as you and run a 100 jet so i guess thats about right. Still waiting on my gear up kit, all the way from taiwan. The nearest dealer with a9 cams is only half hour away, guess where i am going tomorrow!

Tell us how it works for you, i rode the scoot 40 miles today since the cam made it so much fun and i could go so many more places i wouldn't even try going before!

I'm told the A9 is a top end cam so id guess the power peak gets pushed over 8000 rpm. the scoot runs about 8000-8500 most of the time with the 5g rollers, i might try lighter just to see but with 5g its working great.

I dont know if this will make the scoot overheat, i will probably switch to synthetic and change oil more often

also this is weird but the cam made it run better at low RPM too, the scoot just feels so much better all around

Have you got a measurement of mpg yet? :D

Also, can you measure the lift of each lobe? ;)

just filled up, half this tank is with the cam, 72 mpg

i will measure again on next fillup

funny thing is with this cam im actually spending far less time at WOT, because it has power to spare. i don't know if mpg will get better or worse.

i did research on this cam, somone posted on another forum the lift is the same as stock. the duration is 5 degrees longer which isnt much. the difference is the cam profile, i should have taken a picture, the A9 is far more aggressive and you can clearly see the difference side by side. it ramps up to full open really quick while stock opens the valve gradually.

I don't know the specs its the original stock belt

Weird thing I retorqued my head to max 2.2 kgf m and adjusted valves to 0.003 and I got about 1 mph. 51 to 52 mph indicated.

Satisfied with scoot now I'm done tuning for now finally
