new to scooters
« on: August 10, 2013, 04:03:33 PM »
The agility 50 was working when a friend had it.
It stopped working and i have taken it as a project.

The spark plug shows a spark.
The fuel tank had water in it but i cleaned it.
Compression is 150psi.

Im a bit concerned about the way the compression seems to create reverse air turbulance in the carburettor.
When i spray cold starter spray into the carb the motor wants to start but i can also see the spray being pushed back out the carby intake.

Is this normal?

Im trying to not to throw money into this incase its never going to be operational again.

The carby seems to be in good condition ,except for the electronic device attached to the carby.
It appears as though there may have been a spring and pin jet set up inside of it, but these parts are missing.
I dont know what year it was made .

Any help with technical data drawings/manuals would be appreciated.

Also the reverse air turbulance inside the carby???

I took the rocker cover off and the cam area is well oiled.

kind regards

sorry about the lack of info.

This is my exact carby design
http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/0000-kymco-agility-50-carburetor-assembly.html

Im guessing now its a stock item
Im also guessing the electronic  device is a electronic choke.
Does anyone have a better pic of that choke ,maybe i can manufacture the missing spring and parts in there?

Infact that whole  webpage for agility 50 is my exact motor type
http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/0000-kymco-agility-50-cylinder-head-assembly.html

Everything in the top end seems tight and clean.Timing chain=tight, valve stem/rocker clearence=minimal but has clearance.
The only conclusion i have with the carby reverse air turbulance is the cam profile allows some overlap that sees a portion of compression pulsing into the intake chamber.

Im really new at these small simple motors.
Can anyone put to ease m ponderings on the intake pulse as normal??

CYLINDER COMPRESSION
Warm up the engine before compression test.
Remove the met-in box and center cover.
(􀃖2-3)
Remove the spark plug.
Insert a compression gauge.
Open the throttle valve fully and push the
starter button to test the compression.
Compression: 16kg/cm2rpm
If the compression is low, check for the
following:
‧Leaky valves
‧Valve clearance to small
‧Leaking cylinder head gasket
‧Worn piston rings
‧Worn piston/cylinder
If the compression is high, it indicates that
carbon deposits have accumulated on the
combustion chamber and the piston head.

Service manual suggest 16kg/cm2
 150PSI x 0.07 = 10.5 KG
So im down on compression.
Im thinking the inlet valve is not seated correctly or a combination of problems :-[

150psi cylinder compression should be sufficient.  Insert a plastic drinking straw into the sparkplug hole to verify flywheel and cam sprocket timing indications are in alignment at piston TDC . . sometimes the flywheel/crankshaft woodruff key will shear.  Verify valve lash is around .002 inches.  If the choke (enricher) assembly is missing, temporarily plug that hole until the unit is replaced.
