Rear end oil for People 200S
« on: May 16, 2013, 08:12:19 PM »
I am servicing my 200S for the first time. The manual says to add oil until it is flush with the bottom of the fill hole. When I took the bolt out of the fill hole I could not see any oil. Since I was going to change the oil I didn't add any. When I drained the oil I got 150 ml. The markings on the scooter say fill with .18 liter. I added .18 liter or 180 ml back to the oil reservoir. I could not see the oil level, so I added more oil...still no overflow at the fill hole. After I had added oil several time without getting an overflow at the fill hole I figured something was wrong. I drained the oil I had added back out of the rear end and I had 400 ml. So, which is correct, .18 liter or fill til the oil is level with the bottom of the fill hole? Thanks in advance for your help. My local dealer says .18 liter but he didn't sound like he was sure. LOL
Thanks,
Steve

If your 200S is the same as my People 150, then the .18L is correct.  Mine also says .18L on the outside of the scoot and I have used that amount for several oil changes and have had no problems.  Filling to the bottom of the hole on mine would require considerably more than .18L.

Thanks Cal. I am pretty sure they are the same. That is what I added and I took it for a shake down ride...all is well so far. LOL I still can't understand why the manual say to fill to the oil level is at the bottom of the fill hole.
Anyone else got any ideas?

If you fill the rear to the hole you will end up with the oil being pulled up into your air filter and into your engine. Sure messes up a good air filter fast. Been there, done that.

Yeah, trust me, if your bike is anything like the Yager GT 200i, you don't want to fill the gear casing all the way up to the fill hole... I did that, and it pulled oil into the air filter box, which dripped out of the little rubber bulb at the bottom back of the air filter box.

I now put in 250 ml, as I think 180 ml is too little. I bought the Mixmizer giant syringe so I can measure the amount put in. Works like a charm. No oil is drawn into the air filter box using 250 ml.

I also went with a thicker oil. I kept seeing metal in my gear oil, so much so that it was glittery. I changed from Lucas 75W-90 to Royal Purple MaxGear With Synerlec 75W-140, and now there's no metal in my gear oil. So if you're seeing the same, that's something to try.

I had my dealer change the tranny oil first ,when I changed the oil after a long ride it was hot oil ,. and the crap that came out was full of alum.  and black crap ,since I change the oil hot every time,. it is clear,   that is what I do to tranny and engine oil ,.
