Blown off by Xciting 500
« on: September 09, 2013, 05:50:21 PM »
Had the day off so I went for a scoot. I come up to this intersection and there's a guy on a Xciting 500 two cars ahead. We want through the intersection and I was right behind him. He turn onto a side street so I followed.  I honked and waved. I know he saw me because I saw him look in his rear view. Just wanted to ask him about his scoot. The guy just kept going. Kind of a jerk. Most times people love to talk about their rides. Never had this happen before. Maybe he thought I was a nut for riding my Like with armored jacket and pants and there he is in shorts and flips. I'm a nurse and those that ride without gear are referred to as organ donors. Oh well his loss.

Well now I think we see your problem, you are a nurse but wearing ATGAT.  Even I would have stopped for a nurse in a nurse's outfit on a scoot.   :)

Oddly, I get less of "the wave" from fellow scooter riders than I do motorcyclists. I tell you, no sense of camaraderie in Mobile.

Maybe he just had somewhere to be. Don't take it personally.

I usually get a good reply from people in gear, or people on maxi scooters. But sometimes people just aren't in a talking mood.

More often than not that would be me.  I'll wave, but grunt.  Nothing personal.  ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wears full gear while riding.  Armored jacket, full face helmet, riding gloves, riding pants, and a reflective vest over my jacket.  Yeah, it gets hot here in Texas but it's worth it to me.

I get cruisers quit often giving me the biker wave.  I actually got a sport bike to give me the wave this morning.  I guess he is a new rider because I have NEVER had another sport bike rider wave.

Everybody on a motorcycle or scooter gets an unconditional wave from me. That way I don't feel bad if someone doesn't wave back. It does feel quite nice being in a motorcycle brotherhood of sorts when a fellow rider does wave back.

Sometimes, the other rider will nod or lift a few fingers slightly off the handlebars. That can be hard to spot if the motion is subtle.

I'm tempted to say motorcyclist stereotypes are often broken when I leave city limits and meet motorcyclists while out for long rides. I'll be leaned over on my sportbike and returning waves from Harley or maxi scooter or touring riders who come down the opposite lane. You find other people more passionate about riding out there and have lots of time to talk about their rides and where they're going.
