scoot eating belts

Hi all, as I have now bought a pricey kevlar belt I have been taking another look at my variator set up. I ground a couple of mm off the end of the variator boss to ensure that the belt rides all the way up the pulley face. This it did and gave me an easy 5mph increase. But looking again today I see that because the bush is shorter that the variator fixed plate ( complete with starter teeth all round ) is not in line with the clutch rear pulley.It seems that the belt has been rubbing at an angle in the variator and even getting scrapped by the teeth on the pulley. I am going to refit a smooth and standard length boss and see how i get on but I will sure miss that extra 5pmh.

My idea for plan b !!  Could i fit a washer behind the moving variator between the variator and the crankcase bearing in order to achieve the same effect as shortening the boss?

that might work but make sure the washer is not pushinng to hard on the seal that is back there
those can be a pain to replace.

   When you make the variator  boss shorter it causes the retaining nut and washer to tighten down against the splines on the shaft versus the outer half of the variator pulley (nut is tight, but variator has wobble and teeth get into belt, will also destroy splines on shaft and outer pulley half). You could likely gain the speed back with Dr. Pulley sliders as they will have a higher high, and lower low due to their shape. Your rollers apparently were at the end of their ramp, before the pulley was closed. (unless you have changed the rollers to really light ones, which would require really high rpm to close the pulley all the way).

Thanks for the help guys. The idea of the wobbling pulley is I am sure the cause of my problems. I still have my original restricted boss that I will grind down to smooth and refit.
I will also checkout the sliders.
