rollers/sliders
« on: June 28, 2013, 02:10:30 PM »
Searching for the truth about making changes to variator weights from stock/oem configuration.

Have read post where some have changed to sliders with no problems and have experienced enhanced performance.

Have also read post where changing to sliders or different roller weights resulted in problems and damaged to the crankcase and crankcase gasket.

For those that have changed from oem parts, please share the results of this change and express your opinion on this subject.

thanks boo

I have a 2012 GTI300. At 550 miles, I replaced the stock 15g rollers with Dr Pulley 14g sliders. I only have about 900 miles on the scoot now, but have had no problems. Seems to accelerate better, will still do 80+ with no problem, and I got 70mpg last fill up. Very happy so far with the change.

The OEM rollers in my 2005 People 150 are 18 mm x 14 mm x 15 g.  I replaced my OEM rollers with 13 g sliders and the top and bottom end is very similar to the rollers.  If anything, I might have gained a little on the bottom end and lost a little on the top end but it is hard to tell.  Acceleration is very smooth.   I have  put several thousand km on the sliders now and I have been very happy with them.....no problems to date.

I have 33,000 km. on my 300i downtown, I installed the sliders at about 6,000 km.   no adverse problems,  the ones that had bad things happen, were doing extreem mods to the variator at high rpm.  and the variator broke.   I am doing a mod with over sized sliders just waiting for the shop to finish the mod on the sliders,. will report back soon ,.

Searching for the truth about making changes to variator weights from stock/oem configuration.

Whether they're round or flat-sided, they all "slide", regardless of shape.  The round ones get flat-sided with use.  You can't lose by trying different types.  Just don't leave them in so long (say 5000 miles) that they wear through to the metal and damage the variator pulley.  Try to replace them before the plastic surface wears through.  The flat "sliders" seem to last a little longer, but some places charge too much $$ for them - so cheap round weights might be a better deal.
