Carrying things on 2 wheels - Patriotic Fail~!
« on: September 16, 2013, 01:46:18 PM »
Vivo's pix of the guy carrying the giant mirror on the back of a scooter reminded me of something.

Years ago, in southern California, a buddy had a Honda 90. It was our only transportation. (had a Hunt's tomato paste can for a muffler)
One day we decided to paint the house we were living in. I hopped on the back and we went through the foot hills to a distant paint discount store. We bought 6 gal. cans of paint. 2 ea. red, white and blue. (we were shooting for a Circus Wagon motif) It was my job to hold them - 3 cans on each knee....no hands remaining to hold onto the bike.
Taking the scenic route home through the mountains he cut one curve too much, while singing and looking into the blue sky,  and was forced wide by an oncoming car...into the sand on the outer berm....we both did a high side dismount over the cliff.
Every one of my 19 years passed thru my mind's eye as I sailed into space with six cans of paint right there beside me.......

I was barefoot, shirtless and wearing my favorite Levi cords....no helmet of course.

That darned Honda was still purring, basically unharmed,  when we got back up to the road.
We now had to ride back through urban southern California totally covered in red, white and blue house paint.
A good bit of the red was drying blood. Euphoric that we'd survived such a horrible dismount over a cliff, we laughed along with all the passing motorists all the way home.

Although my 19 yr old son is a 2nd yr college student, I don't think he can read - so I can still give him heck about riding safety as he gets ready to buy a motorcycle. There is the issue of my 13 yr old daughter finding this post...........she's too clever by half.

Nothing...I mean..nothing can kill a Honda cub... My Honda 70 before had a perforated plastic bottle as a muffler, no lights front and rear and bald tires...

Nice story by the way....  ;)
