Scoots don't need an Italian Tune-Up do they
« on: October 15, 2013, 01:08:32 AM »
I was thinking the other day I that should take my scoot down the 55 MPH country highway to 'blow out the carbon', etc.  since I rarely ride over 40mph. Then I remembered - this is a scooter - it goes 4500RPM in a parking lot at 15 MPH~! It is never lugged and in need of a high speed run.
I have seen 7200 RPM going uphill at 40 MPH.
I think the redline on my LIKE 200i is 7250 RPM (maybe 7000 ? anyone know for certain?)
I think the max torque is made @ 5500 RPM.
This pretty much jives with what I've seen on my tach and felt in my rear when accelerating.

But we don't need to make a speed run to keep the engine healthy and breathing well, do we.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

If you've hit 7200 rpm going uphill at 40 mph, then I highly doubt the rev limiter is set to 7250.  I say that because I have hit 70 mph going down hill on the same scooter you have and the engine was singing a much higher note than what it does at 45 mph going uphill.

91,
Help me out here.
What are the specs on our engine?
I think I found specs for the 50cc , or even the 125cc LIKE.
I say that because I'm pretty certain I was feeling plenty of torque at 6000+ rpm today - pulling that hill.
I've got this tachometer, and I'd like to know what our engine is supposed to be doing.
Maybe I'll fire off an email to Kymco USA and ask them what the engine specs are and IF we have a rev limiter.
