Connect to Battery Tender?
« on: October 26, 2013, 03:32:54 PM »
Can I routinely connect a Battery Tender Jr cigarette lighter adapter to my LIKE 200i's accessory port in the glove box for nightly charging with no issues?
Has anyone done this on their scoots for winter charging?
Or is it better/safer to connect directly to the battery, rather than charging through this port?
Seems like it would be less hassle to use the glove box port.
Thanks, Stig

STIG- I think that this was addressed on a previous post. The problem with using the accessory port is that it only is energized with the key in the ON position. That means that everything would be on (lights, ignition, fuel pump etc.). I have mine attached to the battery posts with a pigtail that has a removable one way only plug that connects to my battery tender. I tuck the short pigtail wire into the body work under the scooter when riding.

Thanks for the info...I have nothing to plug into the port to see if it's on when key is off. (so anything plugged in there must stay in the closed glove box, or you ride around with the door flapping open. ? Strange design.
I remember reading something about not being able to power out much of anything without blowing fuses in the scoot - but didn't know about powering in. Will look to see if my pigtail is fused .....dealer left one on there.
Any particular reason to buy the 'Plus' over the 'Jr'?

Actually, the battery tender I have is a 750ma one from Cycle Gear. It is their Duraboost brand which I bought last fall and has continued to keep the battery up to snuff even on cold mornings. It was $14.99 with  cables.

my fuse in the glove box was 1 amp,. just good for cell or gps,. I rewired a plug in, good for 10 amp. ,  and installed pigtail for battery,. pigtail has a flap cover to keep it clean,.  it hangs under the meti. box just over rear wheel mud guard ,  2011 downtown .
